Should I let my chicken roost on my deck railing?

Thanks everyone. I will keep putting her in every night and keep watching to see if there is anything going on that would be impacting her. I had been thinking maybe the coop was too hot even with the ventilation, windows open (covered in hard wire mesh of course) and the fan bringing in air...

Should I let my chicken roost on my deck railing?

I have had my girls for 4 years and never a problem with them going in at night. Lately, one bird, Dot, decided she is going to start sleeping on my deck railing which probably feels to her like she is in a tree because the Lilac Bush sort of eats the railing in that spot. I've been carrying...

    Decision time--surgery or euthanasia

Hello, I need some outside perspective please. One of my RIR is very sick. I took her to the vet today and she has yolk coelomitis. The vet said it was very bad. He gave me antibiotics and some pain medicine. He said that the antibiotics could clear it up temporarily but in his experience...

    Bullied Bird Please help!

Ok I will try that. She's one of my biggest birds! No weight issues so far because I have been sure to keep food in her little safe area. I wish she would fight back.

    Bullied Bird Please help!

Noticed blood on my RIR today. She has been an outcast ever since she molted in September. I kept hoping the behavior would naturally resolve but it is getting worse. It has been manageable because they free range so she can escape but now it is 0 degree weather and they are not leaving the...

    Petrified Chicken

I can take some pics tomorrow. Their run is 120 feet. It is divided with some space under the coop and then a larger area that is 64 sq feet and then a tunnel to another run that is 32 sq feet. 6 hens. No roosters. Their coop is small. Only 16 square feet of floor space.

    Petrified Chicken

Thank you. It helps to know that being weird after a molt is normal and that time should help.

    Petrified Chicken

One of my RIR's, her name is Crooks, went through our flock's very first molt first. Something during that time freaked her out and she is now completely petrified of the rest of the flock. She wouldn't go anywhere near them for a few weeks even though her feathers are back. Now she will come...

    Is she molting?

Hello, I am a newish chicken owner, had my 6 girls for 1 yr in April . One of my RIR's is suddenly losing feathers. It is the right time of year for molting but I've read it starts on the head/neck. She isn't really missing any feathers from her head and neck. Is this molting or could she...

    Hello!

Hello! We are currently dealing with a bully hen. This has surprised me because they all got along so well for the first year of their life and we don't have any of the normal triggers for such behavior. We have her separated now. My advice would be to have a plan in place for the need to...
