This is Punk Rock. He is my silkie rooster. He is a little over a year old. He is worthless as a guardian, but I love him. He will sound the alarm, from behind a tree or the coop. He was named by my favorite nephew who has Autism/Aspergers and was absolutely terrified of chickens until he met...
My first thought was an injury. There wasn't anything dislodged or fallen in the coop. I looked again for large limbs or anything in the yard. I couldn't find a lump or bump on him. After he passed I went hunting a snake bite or something, anything to explain his death. Yes, I am weird but I...
I don't think so. I know his little feathers were blowing all around because it was windy. I assume you mean crest as in like a dog raising its scruff/ruff.
This one is still blowing some feathers. Unless they are totally different I don't think it is quite as old as they claimed. But I'm new at this. I can guess pretty accurately the age of a horse or a dog LOL but ducks are a new thing
Yes, sorta. But it's very shy and just follows the flow. So I have only heard it the one time. And it isn't a Pekin kind of quack. Does that make sense?
@ chickens really
Thank you :) Being new to the ducks makes identification a bit difficult LOL
The one chicken I REALLY wanted, and don't have yet, :lau I get in duck form the Buff Orpingtons :lau
I have 6 ducks. I know 2 are American Pekin (or were bought as such.) 2 are supposedly Buff Orpington ( Isn't that a chicken??) 1 is supposedly a female Mallard. And the other we have no earthly idea. Any help verifying identification would be appreciated. The first couple show the mystery...
This was the duckling. It was taken day before yesterday. This was the closest he came to being still for pictures. Everything else is blurred because he was very active. Has been since we brought him home and he did his quarantine time.
@Pyxis
What do you mean by a crest? He was on the same feed and scratch, with the run of the coop and back yard where he has been for 2 months. He could move his legs, he just couldn't stand at all. His neck seemed ok when you help him upright, he'd look around and got po'ed at being...
Ricky Bobby was fine this morning at feeding time. When we went this evening to try for good pictures, we don't know breed or sex, RB was in the coop sitting all alone and on his side. When Dear Hunny picked him up and placed him back down he fell over and was struggling to right himself.
He...
Now THAT is one cute baby duck! Miracle is a nice name consideration. If you're getting a male vibe Gulliver after the wanderings around the world. I know this duck took us all on an adventure :) Thank you so much for sharing the experience.
Steven Sir, you give me hope for this old world. It's great knowing that there are SO many people, like myself, who would go to the "trouble" for a tiny little life. I already loved this place and now am sure this is THE BEST forum on the net!
Dear Hunny asked why all the trouble for a 3...
I have 4 mature Isa Browns and they ARE laying machines. When they are happy and healthy they lay 2 eggs each day. I didn't know they have a shorter life span.... That may preclude any more from being added to these and the younger ones I have. Thanks for the information :) I'm getting clear...
So far, that I am sure of, I have Cochens(sp) A Silkie rooster named Punk Rock, Barred Rocks, Isa Browns, Black Copper Marans, Americauna(sp) Asians, 2 Pekin ducks, plus 5 more ducks and lots more tiny chickens to figure out what they are.
