Hi I'm in the southern hemisphere so am waiting for my geese to lay but here are pictures of last years I hand raised Lucky from day one as he was a late hatch and mum took off with the other 8 as they couldn't wait any longer to leave the nest. I ended up with Lemon as well because he just...
I think your right definite 2 dark bills but the smaller one may be another goose as bill darker than the paler ones. gosh they are gorgeous mine havn't started laying yet should start soon forgot how cute the goslings were.
Gabrielle had been sitting on 4 eggs for 49 days so we lifted her off and removed the eggs. She has lost a lot of weight & her feathers are falling out. Much to our horror she has gone straight back to the nest. I am so worried she will waste away she gets 2 pieces of bread a day. Is there any...
Hi Just an update on "Lucky" his uncles & aunties (5) have taken him under their wings Ha Ha ! he has now spent 2 nites out with them & for a wobbly gosling he just went for a 2 km walk with the dog & I !!! His mum & dad still attack him but he gets away . He is twice the size of his siblings...
Thankyou, I will try to take pics but could be difficult till she is walking them around as she is nested between a water tank & the house under a tree fern. At the moment I have supplied her with food & water as well as chic starter & water for the teeny weenys as she still has 4 eggs & is...
Gabrielle has now been on the nest for 7 and a half weeks her daughter Patch just hatched her first goslings yesterday and she didn't set till 2 weeks after her mum. I think she Gab may have mated with her son and he only turns 1 in october so he could be firing blanks. What do I look for when I...
Yesterday Patch the egg eater had her head covered in yolk so I lifted her up to see how many eggs she had eaten and much to my shock there were heaps of newly hatched goslings so I said sorry and quickly reinstated her. !!!woohoo glad I didn't toss the eggs.
Thanks for that. I'm not sure how you stop them sitting I would feel bad destroying their nests, all that work. and if you take the eggs away they just keep laying. These 1st year girls mated in July/August and sat before they have turned 12 months in October !!! they seem quite determined to breed.
I didn't expect so many eggs as previously the girls laid 6 to 8 eggs x 3 hatches and for 2 years no live goslings after 2 weeks ? python ? last year 3 hatches of 8 resulted in 5 goslings so I was so surprised about the number of eggs in the nests. Nobodies hatched any more yet and it's 4...
I had only wanted 1 pair but kept being told I bought a pair only to find 6 months later they were 2 boys who I didn't have the heart to split up. So I went searching for girls. The first 2 years the goslings hatched but disappeared within 2 weeks ? python ? then 1 hatch out of 3 survived last...
