Michigan, Montana, Dotty, Henry the 8th, Pebbles, Fatty, Queen Latipha, Pop-eye, Nancy, and Olivia are the names of several that we have. There are about 20+ unnamed ones. :)
I live in Lancaster, PA. The water I use is well water. I clean the container every time it gets empty (about 2-4 days). I don't use cleaner. Just water and a scrubber.
I noticed it last year and now again this year. There is a clear, sticky, filmy substance around the bottom edge of my chicken's water container. Water does not get it off, and soap did not do much either. When I sprayed it with water, the water had white goo in it. If I scrape it off, it's like...
We have a young chicken not fully grown that apparently got pecked in the eye. The eye swelled and bulged out of the socket. It is all black with a thing film covering it. We can tell the chicken is blind. She is always very nervous and alert. However, she is noticeably thinner than the other...
I have a year old easter egger who has been wandering around very slowly for the past month. She is the last one to come out when it's time for free ranging, and stays huddled up in a corner by her self. She has been eating, and has been drinking a ton! Just today she was standing in a puddle...
ok thanks that makes sense, so I just need to figure out about how much food my flock eats per day...but then with the wild birds I can't really tell...anyway thanks again!
Thanks for the advice! During the winter they have access to food all day long, but during the summer, if I do that the birds just get it. My chickens also can free free range any time they want, since their run connects to a little 'pasture'.
Hello. I have two questions: First, How much should I feed my chickens every day? (Also considering about my question 2, the wild birds.) I would like to be able to save as much as I can on chicken feed. Currently I am feeding the chickens about 5 and one half quarts of regular chicken feed...
Virginia had a trip to the vet on Thursday.:D The vet stitched her up and gave us some cream to put on the wound and pills for her to take. She is coming along very well, and eating normally. Thanks for all those who gave me suggestions!
Thanks for the insight! I think I will let her have a good nights rest before I try to move her around a lot! :rolleyes:About the rest of the flock.... I am assuming they will not be laying many eggs in the next couple days......
Right now she is in a basement so I don’t think there will be any flies. There is a door near her cage that lets in a lot of light to the basement..will she be okay in there or should she be near the rest of the flock?
A german shepherd jumped a fence down the road from us and apparently came after the chickens. I was not aware at all that anything had happened till the dog was stalking the run. It attacked one of our hens, and with mouth or claws ripped a pretty deep gash in her back about 2 inches long and...
Thanks guys for all your help! Today her sores seemed better. Some of her other feathers have covered the sores. I think I will try some of that blukote stuff and vaseline. I was thinking of putting a separate enclosure outside the main pen for her with a covered dog crate to sleep and lay eggs...
