    Rooster doesn’t crow

I'm having this exact same issue. I bought 5 chickens, the previous owner told me they were all 9 month old hens. When I went to pick them up one is DEFINITELY a rooster (he's much larger, huge wattle/comb, long curved tail feathers) but the previous owner had never seen him crow and apparently...

Introducing chicks - is this normal?

They have a nice warm brooder box that they're usually in It's been in the mid 80s and they just had a little outdoors time, but I guess it was too chilly in the shade!

    Introducing chicks, is this normal??

The Cornish was actually terrified of the new chicks at first, it has a nervous disposition - they've all warmed up to each other very quickly though, I'm definitely a happy chicken mama

    Introducing chicks, is this normal??

Yep! It's probably closer to 5/6 weeks now, but honestly I have no idea since it was so big when I bought it!

    Introducing chicks, is this normal??

Oh I'm sorry, I should have clarified: these are all standard chickens. The coyotes got away too easily with my bantams, so we're going bigger.

Introducing chicks - is this normal?

To make a long story short: we lost 5 of our 6 bantams to what we suspect was a coyote. The only remaining chicken was a bantam rooster. I hopped over to Rural King and found what appeared to be a 3 week old Dark Cornish chick completely alone, so of course I brought it home despite it being a...

    Too many roos?!

So far I'm only 100% convinced that one of them is male. The second I'm 90% sure about and the third (my favorite!) has only a comb to make me suspicious so I'm waiting on it. I might just get rid of the one I'm sure about though - he's pretty rude to the other chickens.

    Too many roos?!

Well hens-only was my initial plan buying pullets, but apparently that's not what I did haha. So far the boys haven't been problematic whatsoever - they won't get anywhere near the kids OR me (except for one friendly one who will let us get close but then darts off). I was hoping with smaller...

    Too many roos?!

I think I'll probably wait and see if any of them become aggressive or bothersome before I decide on a second coop. We have little kids, so I don't have the luxury of tolerating mean pets. Thanks for your input!

    Too many roos?!

Thank you for your reply! We purchased them at Rural King, which I have slowly learned might have been our first mistake. We also have no idea what breed they are as that information was not available either. I'll definitely consider the second coop! We mostly free range them - would seperate...

    Too many roos?!

In April we adopted 6 (advertised as) bantam pullets. They are now just over two months old, and we have come to the realization that at least two, possibly three of them are roosters. They have spurs, big red combs/wattles, and one or two of them is crowing regularly. My question is: how do I...

    New to chickens!

Hello all, In April we adopted six bantam chicks and built a small coop for our backyard. This site has been indispensable! I finally created an account. We're from northern Indiana
