The solid black one appears to be a drake, black and white a hen.
If you are attached to them.. it’s easy to set up a home for them. All they need is a predator proof coop to sleep in at night. A large chicken coop will do. A kiddie pool to splash around in. Food and water.
They make really neat...
If the answer is yes.. what can I do to encourage them to sit on any eggs they lay. They don’t seem broody at all. Should I add ceramic eggs or chicken eggs to make the clutch seem bigger?
my hens haven’t been around my tom for 8 days. Long story short I no longer own him.
Would they still be laying fertile eggs after 8 days.. or is it too late to start letting them keep and hatch eggs starting tomorrow ( day 9)
Up until now I’ve been taking their eggs so they have none...
I have a 10 month old Tom who I raised since he was a few days old. I know getting attached to a turkey is ridiculous, but I’ve considered him to be a pet. I had no intention of raising him for food, just to keep him and a couple hens as hobby pets.
As he got bigger, he became not trustworthy...
I have a lone Muscovy male that I adopted last week. I’m guessing he’s around 1 or 2 years old.
I am supposed to get him another drake ( same breed and age ) as a friend tomorrow. I can’t get more than 1 more duck.. so I figured another male would be better than a female due to him over...
I’ve made a few recent posts about this lone Muscovy drake I brought Home from the rooster drop off pen at the Co op.
I want to get him another companion but only have space for one more.
I’m kind of conflicted if I should get him a female ( will he over breed her? ) or a male buddy.
If I get...
new duck owner. He has a doghouse in his run, but doesn’t use it and stands outside in the rain. Is this normal for a duck? I know my turkeys will just chose to hang out in bad weather instead of going in, unsure about ducks.
Also I gave him a food dish but I don’t really see him eating from it...
I won’t be having any female ducks around.
But the last thing I want or need would be males fighting.
I’ve heard they can also hurt or kill chickens so I won’t risk that.
Would he be ok being a lone duck?
hello everyone.. very new to ducks.
I brought home a adult male Muscovy that was left in the rooster drop off pen at my local co op. He tugged at my heart seeing him in there so here I am with an unexpected duck.
I already have several chickens and 3 turkeys.. all kept separate. So Mr. Duck is...
I’m not sure. She had a mate for it but it also became sick and died. She said it was staggering and couldn’t stand properly ( the deceased one )
The current one looks sick as well obviously. I asked if it had yellow poop. She said no. So I’m not sure if it’s blackhead or chicken related
an acquaintance has a sick turkey.
It has a ruffled and tucked in appearance, clear secretions from its nostrils, and a misshapen looking head
I thought likely respiratory or mycoplasma. So I sent her some of my left over Denegard for treatment.
But it’s just a sick and odd looking turkey. She...
I have 2 sibling toms and only 3 hens. All around the same age ( hatched May - June )
I was thinking I’d likely have to re home one of the two toms, but I just read in Storey’s Guide to Raising Turkeys that two genetic sibling toms can live together and the less dominant tom will willingly...
I
think I did a few months ago, I just haven't been back on the forum in a while.
I'm Shannon. We currently have 4 chickens, a rooster, and 4 turkeys.
We are fairly new to Wa. Been here about 3 years from southern Ca.
Hi everyone. I'm in Snohomish and this is my first year with chickens and turkeys.
That being said, I have a Narragansett heritage turkey ( hatched late may, early june) that I believed was a hen. Turns out Gussy is indeed a Gus. I'm very attached to all my turkeys as backyard pets but I already...
