I hope this is the right place for this. If not, please let me know. We got these Ayam Cemani eggs from a local breeder and have raised the chickens to maturity. Now that they're grown (and the Rooster is causing a ruckus) we'd like to sell them. However, we're not sure what a reasonable asking...
Yeah, that may be a course of action. How much would a necropsy cost? Also, the nearest places that provide necopsies seems pretty far away. I don't think this was a hereditary thing. Her mother had 8 other chickens that all turned out healthy. I dunno though. Thanks for the advice.
Thanks for the condolences. We thought Marek's disease nay have been the culprit last time. But when we asked around we were told that it's very rare in our area (Oregon). Along with that, no other chicken is showing symptoms. Hanna's symptoms were more akin to a vitamin deficiency we treated...
Sadly, one of my chickens died last night. 7 months to the day, nonetheless.
Everything was fine until I went to lock the flock up for the night. During the morning and throughout the day Hanna was her normal self, walking and pecking like usual. But that changed right before bedtime. As I went...
Any idea what breed she is? She's a mutt as in the rooster and hen were different breeds. The Rooster was an Ameracauna. But I'm sure she resembles a breed or two.
I'm having trouble identifying this hen. I've searched around the web and she kinda looks like either a Red Sex Link or a Golden Comet. But I do t remember hearing of a Golden Comet when we purchased her. Any ideas, BYC?
Hello from Portland, OR!
Currently, our brood consists of:
1 Buff Orphington
1 Rhode Island Red
1 New Hampshire Red
1 Plymouth Rock
1 Golden Comet
9 assorted juveniles (The hens like playing mommy)
That may be 9 more than the permitted 5. Let's just keep that on the DL.
I'm glad to be joining...
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
The first round of chicken raising was about 2-3 years ago. We had them for a while. Sadly they fell victim to the neighborhood raccoons.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have 5 permanent hens and 9 temporary...
She has officially been reintroduced to her brood! She's a bit wobbly, but other than that she's back to normal! I can't believe how fast the turn around was once she got her medicine. It's quite astounding. Thanks to everyone who gave advice. I'm very grateful for it. Now if I could only think...
I'm happy to report that she's back on her feet! She's a bit wobbly, but she's up and eating. She was also able to get the shoe off aling with the bandaid around her legs. Her curled up foot also looks better. It's easy going, but I think she's on her way to recovery!
Now that she's situated, it does look like her right toes tend to curl up. That could help with the Vitamin B deficiency. We've retaped her legs and have crushed up B Super Complex (Niacin, Thiamine, Riboflavin and B-12.) into both her food and water. We're trying to put a little boot over the...
