Any ideas how to keep duck ponds clean without major costs?
Sorry for the very very late reply, I don't get on here much anymore. The pump ran continuously and did an ok job of filtering out some of the junk but it wasn't great. In hind sight if I could do it again I would use a sand filter from a swimming pool. Now that being said if you choose this... -

Or you could make a small one now that could easily be taken apart and moved later and Then you could build new or add on later. I'm using a green house frame now to rehab a kestrel and works great. It could easily be unbolted and moved somewhere...as far as your other questions I'll have to... -

Destin- the only thing I have left at the house is a pair of Amherst and a ruddy shelduck male. Plus a hanful of domestics. The mergansers died on me , something got the ruddy hen...and I couldn't keep a pheasant chick alive for nothing. Hope things went better for you? As far as pumps go... -

That cane type grass I have in there they wont even touch and for some reason they didn't bother the wheat in there too much either or the honey suckle. But of course I planted all of it in there full size anyhow so they didn't get a chance to eat the small sprouts -

carbon filters from walmart with scotch bright pads all placed I n a skimmer box that flows into where the pump is. An old sand filter and pump from a swimming pool will work also. The water still needs changed after a couple weeks because of the ammonia and nitrogen levels but as long as you... -
