I've raised bantams ....which were annihilated by predators,I've started raising Brahmas ...by their incredible size seems to deter predators ....does size matter?
Welcome Scott,
I had ducks, not sure what breed they were,I believe every bird I've ever had was special......they become family.....but ducks, they do get very attached to "their human"....
Hey all,
I have a Sexlink hen, she's been walking upright for 9 months,my light Brahma hen, she's been having neurological issues since she was a chick...her head isn't straight,I love my chickens,God must have gave them to me for a reason, they both eat and drink well....Is it crazy to love a...
I DON'T judge anyone,a fox isn't human and does not have human intelligence or think like a human.....it's humans that "assume" the fox possesses "human traits"...they may watch and learn just like domestic dogs but you're giving them abilities they don't possess.
I had 14 birds killed two years ago...by a weasel, I never went after the weasel(I miss my birds every day)....I was angry but you can't stay angry at a predator (It's all they know) I don't "give predators" human feelings, they're wild animals,I hand raised a new flock..Killing wild...
I don't particularly care if I'm liked or hated,I'm not going to kill a wild animal that's "doing what it's meant to do"...I don't won't to lose my "show birds" but I live in the sticks...I was taught to love every animal, wild or domestic,I'll protect my birds but I won't murder a wild animal...
I can't support your "killing any wild animal " ...you're saving your flock but why put your flock in "harms way" in the first place,I keep my expensive show birds in a huge coop and a huge ,covered run,two just happened to run out one day...it was human error,I I would never kill the fox or...
I'm probably going to get a lot of negative comments from this...,I raise and show Brahma chickens,I've lost a few to predators,I will not kill a wild animal because it's "doing what it's meant to do"....I don't want my chickens to die but I refuse to annihilate an animal that is instinctual...
Thank you WIL781..earth couldn't break him so heaven had to take him.....you're flying with the angels now ...till we meet again!! Love you always my sweet boy.
Baby chicks are living breathing animals...they are not disposable !! They are cute hatching out of the egg...they are not "toys ",They require heat for months, fresh food and water daily, they are tiny babies who need the care an infant does...,they will grow up and be dependent upon their human...
The incubator is not good...I understand you love your daughter but you're bringing a "new life into the world" ...the baby chick or chicks are not "toys" They need a brooder, fresh chick food, fresh water every day...baby chicks need a 250 watt red heat lamp for 4 months!! Baby chicks need...
This is an unhealthy bator to hatch baby chicks!! It needs to hold 99.5 constant daily temp and "I use dry humidity...20-30% for 18 days and increase it to 65-70% during lockdown.
I use the NurtureRight 360 from Tractor Supply($140)....I've had extremely high hatch rates with this bator(mainly shipped eggs),I no longer use Styrofoam bators.
This site is filled with knowledgeable, compassionate and truly lovely individuals.....they guide you through incubation and every step in between,I'm thankful to have such a remarkable group of people to "lean on"...
