    Newbies

So after 2 failed attempts using an incubator, we finally hatched some wonderful little fluffballs under our Cochin Bantam. Nature is a lot more reliable than technology and so much better when you hear the chirping under the hen who is clucking away. Now for the hard part of rearing the little...

Broody being bullied off her nest

Thanks for the replies guys, the RSL just wanted that nest box to lay in, I have now moved the broody into a coop on her own and will see how she does, do I still need to candle the eggs to check development or best to just leave them?

Broody being bullied off her nest

Hi I was incubating a batch of eggs, when after 7 days I discovered I had a broody hen. I placed the eggs with her and ever since she has been sitting on them, only getting up twice to eat and drink. Today I discovered the more dominant hen in the flock removing her from her nest and proceeding...

    Is my egg hatching

I am at Day 23 with my last remaining bantam egg, I candled this morning and I could see the beak at the membrane right next to the air sac. I haven't got a hydrometer so don't know my exact humidity so I added a wet kitchen towel to increase it to hopefully get the little one to pip. I have...

    Bantam Egg

Its circulated air and the humidity is hard to tell as it doesn't have a monitor on and I can't fix one as their was no space so just a case of following manufacturers guidelines. The air cell was developing as normal up until now, I have put in a piece of sponge soaked in warm water to try and...

    Bantam Egg

Hi I am at day 15 of incubation of my bantam eggs and I have noticed that the air cell has not grown since day 11 when I last candled, is this a concern? I would say 2/3 of the egg are covered now and I can still make out veins, since I am new to incubation I don't know what is normal and what...

Bantam breeds that lay blue pink green eggs?

My splash Araucana is very friendly, she has a great personality too and if I'm honest she is my favorite lol. The Lavender is a scared little lady, now o don't know if that's because of her previous keeper, I got her when she was 14 months old. She is the bottom of the pecking order as she was...

I have a Lavender Araucana and a splash Araucana so get blue eggs from these, 2 leghorns give me white eggs and then a variety...

Tried the feel test, they feel the same so leaning towards a chicken's egg. I have 3 Leghorns, 1 lays pure white and then the other 2 lay like the egg in the picture. I also have Austolorp, Wyandotte and Brown Leghorn as well as Red sexlinks, add to that the 2 Araucanas and I have quite a variety :)

    Head lice on Cockerel

I'm based in the UK so can only buy online and will take a while for the items to be shipped. When I have had lice problems prior I have used a spot on that I have for my ferrets and also spray the affected areas, vent, wings and neck usually with a fly strike spray, again this is sold for use...

    Head lice on Cockerel

No, he has no feather loss at all and the lice are in his head only, I only discovered them yesterday, the main one I got out, which is the image I posted, is a large adult and when I looked through him the rest were mainly babies and eggs
