    Neighbor Chicken will not leave

There are fox, coyote, raccoon, stray cats, etc. out where we live. I'm guessing something got them. :hit

    Neighbor Chicken will not leave

I am currently enrolled in an English Comp class. Should there be an opportunity to write a story, THIS is it! lol!

    Neighbor Chicken will not leave

Here's a picture of Little, 4 of the big girls and the very scary head of cabbage!

    Neighbor Chicken will not leave

I hope we aren't jinxing anything but.....I'm calling it. I think the big girls have accepted Little into the flock! :hugs There hasn't been any real chasing; I think Little is just nervous and will scoot out of the path if any of them even walk her way. She is eating, drinking, pecking at the...

    Neighbor Chicken will not leave

They really are! We had always liked letting them out in the evening and watching them walk around and do their 'chicken' things in the yard. This has been WAY more interesting! :love

    Neighbor Chicken will not leave

Now then...after I posted the update, my husband went down and hung a head of cabbage. The big girls were, of course, scared. :barnie They were all bunched up and kept walking around the perimeter of the run together looking at the strange new hanging object. :eek:Little walked up and pecked...

    Neighbor Chicken will not leave

They did but not all the time. It was a few hours at night after work. Then we would lock them up when they went in to roost. Our thinking was that we did not want to go through having to go out and get her off of the roof of the run at night to put her in the coop.

    Neighbor Chicken will not leave

No birds are out. We thought we would wait a week before we let them out. They have all been in the run together since Friday night.

    Neighbor Chicken will not leave

Monday update and question: Things look like they are ok today. Since I've been home from work I've seen the Isa brown go after Little once. But here's the question.....for the past 1/2 hour or so, Little has been running back and forth along the back of the run. No one is bugging her or...

    Neighbor Chicken will not leave

Sunday night update: Today was pretty good. There seems to be one big girl (Isa Brown) who is quite focused on making Little's life hell. (Did I mention we figured out that Little is an Old English Bantam?) This Isa has some messed up feathers on her head and sides (it's been like this for...

    Neighbor Chicken will not leave

The day went pretty good. The chasing still happens but it diminished some over the course of the day. Little spent a lot of time on top of the pallet in the run but from time to time I would see her walking around the run scratching and etc. Earlier today Little was in a nesting box, to hide...

    Neighbor Chicken will not leave

Quick update. So far, so good. The usual pecking order stuff, nothing too aggressive or rough. We put a pallet in the run and leaned it against the outside of the coop. Little was hanging out on top and under it for quite awhile. She has since found a nesting box that she is hiding in...

    Neighbor Chicken will not leave

We definitely have stuff to put in the run like this! We'll get that in there tonight!!! Thanks!

    Neighbor Chicken will not leave

Still...she's not giving up. I like this little girl! She's spunky! lol! As far as the bikes go, Winter doesn't seem to want to go away this year. It's been cold and rainy, then maybe warm for about 20 minutes in one afternoon, then it snows, rinse, repeat. It needs to be warm (70)...

    Neighbor Chicken will not leave

The coop is 6 x 8, the run is approximately 14x12 but L shaped. We don't really have another enclosure that would be big enough for the big girls. We could put her in the run by herself while the big girls are outside of the run? Adding another bird with her is an interesting idea. And...

    Neighbor Chicken will not leave

So tonight everyone was mixing nicely, no squabbles. And then....a couple of the big girls went into the run to eat or drink and Little must have followed them. She got trapped with about 3 of the big girls chasing her, pinning her down, pecking at her (no blood draws) etc. She was panicked...

    Neighbor Chicken will not leave

I think so too! I'm encouraged. There aren't many 'chases' now but I think that Little's first instinct is to run when they just take a step in her direction. My husband has had to work a little harder to get her into the front of the coop at night. She has been wanting to hang out on top of...

    Neighbor Chicken will not leave

I know! It's been fun/interesting to watch. I think we are getting closer. She's working on being closer and closer and they are chasing her off less and less. I think we are shooting for Friday night for putting her in the coop with the big girls. We'll be home on Saturday morning to watch...

    Neighbor Chicken will not leave

Quick update: No big changes. We have been letting Little sleep in the front side of the coop. We leave the door open, she goes in on her own, makes herself comfy then we shut the door. My husband even found a very 'little' egg the other morning! We let the big girls out during the day/when...

    Neighbor Chicken will not leave

I was thinking of her 'safe space' during the day. But it's not like I can put a sign up that says "For safety only" lol! Thank you! Yes, I think more patience on our part and keeping an eye on how things are going is the best course of action. Thank you!!!
