Yeah, im definitely not going to do anything rash yet, I'll keep an eye on her and try to make sure she isn't in pain.
I did the personal check and nothing. So the cause of the swelling must be higher up. Bugger.
And No, her comb isn't as plump and red as it could be. It even may have some...
Oh no :(
I live very far away from a vet or anything, I also keep small birds and have some triple c that I keep for them. It's all i have, Is it worth a try?
Anything I could do to help with the swelling? A bath maybe?
Poor little thing, she was an ex battery hen. Didn't think she'd get sick...
Hmmm she has gotten a little grumpy, like most of my chickens do when molting. However no brown feathers in the coop but that would be something to keep an eye on. So I did a comparison with another chicken, and the area below her bent does feel like it might be swollen.
Her vent looks normal...
Hi there,
I have an Isa Brown girlie who is about a year and a half old. She used to produce the biggest eggs in my flock and did so 6 days a week (despite being the second smallest there!)
However a little while ago she missed a couple of days. I wasnt worried as most of my flock slowed down...
Thank you for your replies, she is part of a flock, although usually does her own thing. Just wanted to make sure she was okay and I had a neighbour complain about the noise yesterday. Gave her some sunflower seeds and she stopped straight away so maybe it's just her saying that she wants treats...
I have a first-year chicken who I have had for a month. Not sure what breed she is, apparently mixed with a "French show hen".
She settled in quickly, I didn't have any problems with her, however for the past week or so she makes this horrendous noise in the morning! Sometimes it lasts for 20...
Its not you, I bought 3 chickens that were all the same age and breed, and they each started laying weeks apart. They were also fed layer feed.
I don't think you need to worry :)
I'll have a closer look once I'm able to, I have checked his pads and scales and they seem to be in the clear but I'll check again with a light. Thanks a bunch!
I have a maturing 5-month old rooster. He was born with a toe missing and has a little stub about a third of the length of the toe that's supposed to be there. All the time I see him lifting this foot up as though it hurts to put pressure on it, and I mean ALL the time. I've looked at his little...
Thank you :) this site helped me a bunch when I wasn't a member.
She was lethargic, sneezing, making this awful gargling sound while she breathed. Vet said it was basically chicken pneumonia.
I've been giving her Baytril twice a day at the vet's telling.
It's been 4 days after I took her to...
I've spent the last few days looking after a very, very sick chicken. My chicken Lucy had a lot of fluid in her lungs, wasn't eating or drinking and if I hadn't taken her to the vet she would have died.
The vet said that she needed to have medication for 10 days and to be isolated from the rest...
