I prefer pellets. Less waste. The crumbles they just scatter all over, but the pellets they do not scatter as much. Chickens seem to like it, so were all happy.
I have made two coops out of recycled materials that I either already had or got from craigslist or the restore. One is made entirely out of exterior doors. Which is nice because they are insulated & I can open doors on either side of the coop during the summer. Some of the doors have windows...
I made a cheep chicken feeder that works great. Only cost me $1.00. I had coffee cans & banding & nut/bolts. So all I had to buy was a cake pan. I got the pan at the Dollar Tree for $1.00. If you have to buy the banding/brackets & nut & bolts it might cost you a few more dollars. But still a lot...

Since it has small bit marks, I would say maybe a hawk or an owl.
But the list of predictors are many
Raccoon, Opossum, Weasel, Mink, Coyote, Fox, Eagle, Hawk, Owl, Dog, Cat, Snake, Skunk, Rats
Thank you for the info. I bought some flat computer fans that I think I will use. I'm sure I will have to play around with the fans.
I have some peltier coolers that I want to play around with for a back up 12v heater
I also have some usb coffee warmer plates that are DC & will run on 12v...
You can usually feel an egg, but do not push hard as to break the egg inside her
Here is a thread about the subject on Egg Binding
https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/egg-binding-symptoms-treatment-and-prevention.66978/
Since the chicks are experiencing this within 24 hours of receiving them, I would say that if the chickens are getting sick so soon then perhaps they were getting sick before you got them or there maybe an environmental problem within the brooder.
I had a similar problem a few years ago...
I want to try to make a big incubator. It will be my winter project. I purchased a used wine cooler refrigerator really cheap. It has a glass door & rails for shelves. I want to revamp it into a incubator. I thought since it has a full font glass door & is insulated it would make a great...
You have to push the set button & do as the manual says to change either the heat or humity settings & to set the alarms;
Heat is in usually set from the factory at 38 Celsius. When I used mine I put 2-3 extra thermometers in there (before I set my eggs) for a few days to see what the...
I bought mine on Ebay. I have 4 units, but 2 different brands. They sell them in 48 or 56 eggs, but you could only put a couple dozen in them if you want. You do not have to put in a full load. They are fully automatic.
Now out of the two kinds there is one kind that I did not like. The...
I bought some Lavender maran chicks a couple of months ago. I can't wait to see them grown. I have 8 of them & I think there maybe 3 roos in there. Time will tell.
I'm not sure how to PM you for the info, but I am interested in the lavender Marans. I bought some hatching eggs of Lav Marans in the spring. Only one hatched, but the person was very nice & sent me some chicks. I now have 8 of them. I don't want anymore right now, but might at a later date.
Here is a picture of the coop made of doors. There are three doors that open. One is the main entrance door. The other two are ventilation doors (can open but have wire fencing inside). The ventilation doors, one on the west & the other is on the east. All the rest of the doors are screwed...
I have 30 birds, but have some young ones that will go in next month. By then I will have 40 birds in there. My heat lamps are on a controlled outlet that only turns on when it gets below freezing. Not for the birds but to help the water from freezing. A de-icer for their water might be an...
