What I see:
1. Boy, Cochin
2. Boy, looks like your Golden Laced Wyandotte
3. Speckled Sussex, also looks like it might be a boy, but hard to tell just yet.
3. Background, yes, I think you are right, that looks like Silver Phoenix chick to me.
Most hatcheries only gaurantee sexing to be...
#1 looks like a cockeral to me. Not quite sure on #2, but I'm leaning towards cockeral as well.
Since you are hoping for pullets, I will hope that I'm wrong.
It sounds like lice to me. If it is warm in your area, I would wash all the birds with mild liquid soap (I always use Ivory),rinse, and then a dip in malathion bath. If it isn't warm or you can't bathe all the birds, make a dilute spray and use on vent area, under wings, and under hackle...
That chickie has a single comb, it will not magically turn into the correct (rose) comb. It's possible that it was accidently mixed in the the group. What other breeds were they offering?
Bantiehen, in a "compare and contrast" situation you must show distinctions; SQ Cochins almost always have more abundant leg/feet feathers than SQ Brahmas. I am not saying that your birds aren't nice or that they don't have adequate feathering, merely comparing two breeds, with no direct...
I also want to say that I find the new layout much more difficult to navigate/follow posts/load. I do understand the need for the change, and I also believe that it was in the best interest of BYC, but that doesn't make it any more user-friendly.
I haven't been a very active poster for a while, from even before the site change. Some of it was because of personal reasons, the rest of it was that, to me, the feel of BYC has changed.
When I joined, newbies were encouraged to ask their own questions, now they are encouraged NOT to post...
If they are already bigger than other standard size breeds, it's likely that they are standard sized as well. Most hatcheries don't mix standard and bantam together in the same box or area as bantam size chicks are substantially smaller and can sometimes be crushed.
FYI, that one's a boy...
I'm going to stand by my original Partridge Cochin (though it's possibly and Golden Laced), and Black Cochin. Hopefully you'll get some more opinions soon.
Definitely not a Seabright. Silvers are born yellow with heavy chipmunky grey, and Golds are born looking brownish/partridgey. They also feather out very differently from that particular chick.
Your first chick looks very blue, not black. So probably not a Minorca. I agree with the...
Cockeral. I see the beginnings of pointy saddle and hackle feathers. In the first pic, right over the tail, there is one darker feather that is pointy. In the second picture, the hackle feathers that are catching the sun/glare are pointy.
Pointy = cockeral.
