I have about 25 hens. Tomorrow is the big day for the roosters. I have probably 15 Maran and Maran-cross roosters. I was thinking of keeping one huge Austrolorp rooster, one small rooster, which I don't know what breed it is, and possibly all three of these Buff Orps. But I may just take...
I'm considering keeping them regardless. They are docile and quiet and do not harass the other birds. And they add some color to my flock of Austrolorp, Maran and Welsummer hens.
I don't know the different comb types so I'm not sure how to answer that. Now that I study the pics, they probably are both Maran/Austrolorp crosses. I bought a flock that included mostly Marans and Austrolorps and a few of these cross-type birds.
Ok, I think these represent the three different birds. Pic one is bird #1. Pics 2 and 3 have bird #2 and bird #3. I am pretty sure #1 is a roo. The two in the second and third pics, I am sure one is a roo but not sure of the other one but I think it might be a roo, too. I have more pics if...
I'll get better pics tomorrow. I actually have three and I can hardly tell them apart. I saw one crowing yesterday but didn't have my phone handy. Now I can't figure out which one it was. I was trying to discern the saddle and hackle feathering, too. Both saddle and hackle feathers looked...
Here are a few pics of two different Buff Orps. Hens or roos? If you think they're roosters, please tell me why. I'm new to this and am trying to get better at identifying the genders. Thanks.
I purchased a small flock of pullets and young roosters. Here are five different breeds in the flock. I think the black one is an Austrolorp and the smallish brown one might be a Welsummer. Is that right? How about the other three?
Hi. I'm Lisa and my husband have a farm near Mount Airy NC. I started with a small flock of Delawares and New Hampshires a few years ago. With that flock dwindling, I recently purchased a flock of 36 young birds from a local breeder. There are several breeds in the mix but mostly they are...
