    Cheap brooder!

I’m glad to hear other peoples methods for the brooder as I’m pretty new to this! I tried to keep it as cheap as possible and as clean as possible too! I also use puppy pads, but just added pine shavings to 1/2 my brooder. I’m still not sure how I feel about it due to the dust. I came from...

    Cheap brooder!

It sounds like you have a great set up and great plans for the future. I am absolutely still learning (especially since switching from shipped day old chickens to quail hatching eggs) so all information and suggestions are so appreciated. I will look into the waste free feeders, as that has...

    Cheap brooder!

I hatched out about 30 Bobwhite quail as a first-timer a few days ago. I live in AK and the eggs shipped from Iowa taking 4 days in subzero winter temps. I got 30/43 eggs to hatch! I used the MaticoopX incubator from Amazon (amazing!!!) and now have moved them into the brooder. I used a tote...

Help!!! Is this an internal pip??

I have 6 chicks out out of 37 so far. They just started zipping/hatching about 40 min ago! My only regret is not putting a cabinet liner in the bottom. Will do so next time :)

Help!!! Is this an internal pip??

Update! I’ve got “almost” pips in half of the 37 eggs! Im not sure if these are big enough to give them air yet, but they’re trying!

Help!!! Is this an internal pip??

Phew. Ok thank you sooo much! I candled them as I took them out of the turner for lockdown but definitely won’t look again! I hope all goes well. Thank you for the information!! 🥰

Help!!! Is this an internal pip??

Day 20 bobwhite quail eggs. They hatch somewhere between 21-23 days. At 100°F with humidity of 50-55% for first 20 days. Just bumped humidity up to about 73% and left temp at 100°F for lockdown. I candled a few before lockdown and I’m not sure if these are internal pips? It’s already been about...

How cold can eggs get before you can't incubate them?

To give you some hope, I had shipped 43 tiny bobwhite quail eggs to me in Alaska from Iowa recently. They got to Alaska after 4 days, went to my mailbox, and it was about 8° out for two days. I’m not sure how old the eggs were on top of that before shipping, too! I have 40/43 eggs fertile and...

Bobwhite quail air sacs day 4 candleing?

Thanks! I hope so!!! Here are some of the concerning air cells, I think. A few look pretty saddled. Should I continue to try to hatch? I added the last photo to show how much they’ve still developed regardless of air cells being wonky. Thanks for everyone’s help! @TwoCrows @Yorkshire Coop

Bobwhite quail air sacs day 4 candleing?

Thank you! I couldn’t believe how nice some of the development looked already. I went in expecting 0, and as of now have 40/43 shipped eggs still developing well on day 5. I candled the remaining eggs today! I definitely have some loose-ish air cells in a few, but don’t seem totally detached...

Bobwhite quail air sacs day 4 candleing?

I am new to hatching bobwhite quail eggs. I thought this whole hatch was going to be a dud because they took 4 days to arrive in mail and it was freezing out in Alaska. I’m seeing development at 4 days of incubation in almost all 43 eggs after setting for 24hrs. I’m curious if I should be seeing...

    Hard chest, green diarrhea, lethargic

Martha is my 9mo Golden Laced Polish. She is laying, but has not laid in 2-3 days.. she always lays every other day. Her chest is extremely swollen, to the point where I can’t even feel a crop on the right side of her chest. It’s all just huge feeling. Really firm. When she squaks at me, only...

“He” is starting to look like “she?” POLISH

yes! i've seen how nuts the cockerels look lolol. hoping she stays this way. she's almost 13wks old.

“He” is starting to look like “she?” POLISH

He/she is bearded (polish), so sexing by comb or wattles won’t work. 12wks old. Judging by crest, I think “he” is starting to look like a pullet?

    Sexing polish bantams

My polish ended up being my most friendly chicken out of all 20. they seem to calm down and become less flighty after they approach laying age. I literally can't get her to leave me alone. she is nuts!
