    Mixing different ages of chicks

So these 4 were hatched on Thursday, March 7th. Their mother is an Andalusian, and their father is an Isbar. I call them Andalbars. I had to sell their father, he was driving all my neighbors crazy. But I wanted to hatch as many of his babies as possible, so I immediately put another batch...

    Utah!

I filled my run with bags of sand from Lowe's, worked great if your run is covered - otherwise when it mixes with all the poo and gets wet it kinda turns to cement. I've since switched over to sort of a mulch/wood chip material that is working better for me. The chickens poo in it, but are...

    Utah!

Anyone in the Davis County area interested in an Isbar rooster? He's driving my neighbors crazy, and he needs a new home. He's less than a year old, so I guess he's technically still a cockerel. I got him to put an end to the bullying I was having trouble with, and he's done a great job...

    Hatching tiny Leghorn eggs?

Yep, i do have a roster. I have no doubt the eggs are fertile. I was just wondering if a chick could develop to full size in that small of a space.

    Hatching tiny Leghorn eggs?

I have two Isabella Leghorns, I've posted about them on here before. My question is this: They've been laying really well for about the last 2 months, and I'd like to hatch some eggs from them. They are about 7 months old. Their eggs are on the small side. Is it okay to try and incubate...

Last shred of hope...Fertile or Infertile???

Yeah....I don't see a fertile egg either, sorry.

Flock block - do you use one?

So the one I bought was about 8 inches on each side - I did just set it on the floor of the run....weird birds wouldn't even go into that end of the run. I left the dang thing in there for months and they would never touch it, so the mice just helped themselves.

Flock block - do you use one?

They sure are. Part of their charm, I suppose.

Black Isbar rooster + Blue Andalusian hen = ???

This is my roster and his lady friends.

Flock block - do you use one?

I used one with two unexpected results: 1). The hens were terrified of it and wouldn't go near it, and 2) . It provided an easy meal for mice and rats. Not saying either of those will happen to you, that's just what happened to my weird birds...

Black Isbar rooster + Blue Andalusian hen = ???

No Isbar hens, unfortunately. I have a welsummer, an Andalusian, and two Isabella leghorn pullets that have just started to lay.

Black Isbar rooster + Blue Andalusian hen = ???

That would be cool if the eggs came out that color - it would sure add some variety to my egg basket

    Brinsea Ecoglow 20???

Oh...they'll be in a temperature controlled environment, and there's only going to be a small handful of them, so I'm not worried about space. I guess I'm just used to the 250W heat lamp!

Black Isbar rooster + Blue Andalusian hen = ???

Hi. I guess this question is for the geneticists out there: I have a Black Isbar rooster named Olaf, and I'm currently incubating 7 eggs from my Blue Andalusian hen named Winter. I'm just curious what kind of color patterns I can expect? Based on what I've read, within the Isbar breed...

    Brinsea Ecoglow 20???

Hi, I currently have 7 eggs in the incubator, expecting a hatching around March 6th. With that in mind I purchased the Brinsea Ecoglow 20 to replace the heat lamp I've used with baby chicks in the past. Seemed like a better and safer option all around. I guess my question is: I plugged it in...

What do you wish you had known before incubating?

I just bought that exact incubator, and fertilized eggs are en route. I share your concern about the humidity control. As I understand it, you add enough water to maintain half the water pot full until you're 2 days from hatch, then you fill it up so both halves are full. The included...

Who's laying the dark brown egg that keeps getting darker??

That's exactly what I was going to say. That looks exactly like the egg my Welsummer lays. Check earlobe color. Red means Welsummer, white means Leghorn. Good luck!

    First time incubating advice

Totally agree! I don't really *want a lot of chickens, ideally I'd only like to keep one pullet, and sell off the rest. The incubator holds 7, so even if I only hatch 2 I'll be delighted. This is a total experiment so if nothing else I'm looking to learn from it.

I'll definitely keep you updated! I was thinking of starting after Christmas, so a little ways off. I'm excited to give it a try!

    First time incubating advice

Great question! I should have mentioned that before. I am planning on incubating chicken eggs. I plan on ordering some Isbar hatching eggs so I can breed them with my rooster.
