Thanks for asking! We are actually re-homing her with some neighbors who have 2 cayugas (her breed) and one black Swede - they're doing great so far - a handful of brief dust ups and some pokes, but we think she'll be able to move in permanently before Christmas! So glad she's found friends and...
Has anyone tried fence spikes to deter raccoons and if so, has it been helpful? We had a recent attack and are feeling horrible. Our coop is predator proof...except the door wasn't totally locked. Switching to combo lock for that.
Anyhow, the raccoons come from over our fence - I know it won't...
Would that be the case do you think if we brought 2 new ducks home? They'd be on our duck's turf and she's not aggressive...I'm fine with doing it, just want to make sure it makes sense. Thank you!:love
Thanks for sharing your story...yeah, I'm worried the neighbor ducks won't warm to her or it will only make things worse - especially as she'd be on their turf.
And of course the DH wants to rehome because of cost and work load...DD and I want to keep her and get more. Sigh....Logic vs. the...
She seems to be doing better physically every day - but she's definitely depressed. I swear she's crying - she has tears/wetness coming from her eyes with no other signs of eye issues - and it's not just when she's around water.
I'm thinking tomorrow I'm going to try to give her some time...
Thanks Miss Lydia - some neighbors around the corner actually have some cayuga's and we're thinking it might be best to try to re-home her with them rather than get more ducks here...It's not logical, but I still think she'd be more scared/traumatized back in her house her than with a new...
Sadly, the lock on our normally very secure coop was not closed all the way - or that's what we think. Oddly, the there was no carnage inside the coop so I'm wondering if the coons opened it and the ducks freaked and tried to run....oh it just makes me so heart sick!
Thanks Junebeggena - helps me feel better - you're right that we humans can project our own feelings on animals...I can't even look at their house today...just sends me to weeping again. :(
Thank you so much - I'm heading upstairs to get mirror and stuffy now. No vets available in my area today (Sunday) unfortunately, but talked to a friend who's a general farm vet. He said that since she can stand (wobbly) and she's drinking, she should be ok until I can have her looked at...
We are completely traumatized that two of our beautiful, sweet, and only 3 month old cayuga girls were attacked and killed last night by raccoons. Our one survivor is a little wobbly on her legs and has a gash in her neck - we think she'll be ok physically, but she's obviously upset.
We have...
Hi - hoping folks are still responding to this. I too have a 3.5 week old Cayuga girl who seemed to have a seizure or a stroke or fainted - something scary - this morning. She tipped/fell over on her back and did the bicycle feet/wing flap they do when on their backs but then she went completely...
