I just adopted two chickens. I don’t know much about them. The lady thought they are 2 or 3 yrs old. They came from a very small coop and they used cedar shavings for bedding. I’m very concerned about their legs. I have them in a separate coop from my other girls until I feel certain that they...

I’m dealing with the exact same thing. Just coming to post my issue when I saw Palinor’s post. I soaked my Pekins foot twice yesterday in epsom salt and again this morning. I was able to peal the black scab off but can get anything to come out. On my way to find clear iodine. I read it helps...
I currently have 3 ISa Browns, 4 Rhode Island Reds, 1 Cochin, 1 Polish, and 1 Silkie, (plus 2 ducks). I think plymouth rocks may be a nice addition.
I’m looking for gentle, cold weather birds that will get along with my current small flock.
I used a pin to blow the egg out ( made a scrambled egg for myself) rinsed the egg out and put it in a egg basket in my kitchen. Kind of a memento. Like when a kid loses their first tooth. I have a lovely g basket filled with blown out chicken eggs in my country kitchen.
Update: she’s continued to lay. The prolapse is sooo much worse. Almost looks like intestines. I’ve soaked her in Epsom salts and tried to gently put everything back and hold it in. The minute she pooped everything came back out. She’s quit eating and drinking. I’m pretty sure there is nothing...
Shes eating and drinking fine. LOVED the tums/ yogurt combo. I’m keeping her in the garage with a cover over the crate. Hoping she doesn’t try to lay another egg!
I gave her a soak again this morning. She’s eating and drinking. I found poop in her crate, (plus she pooped in her bath). Put on more preparation H. Should I keep giving her the tums? How many times a day should I soak her? I tried gently pushing it back in but it pops right back out. I’m...
I just checked on her. She seems to be settled in for the night. I’ll get a pic tomorrow morning. Praying she makes it. She’s young. Just starting laying about a month ago. I saw some blood on other eggs but thought it was because she just started laying. And, it was a small amount of blood...
I’ve soaked her in a sink of warm water. Put preparation h on her vent and crushed up a tums and put it in some yogurt. She ate that and drank water. I’ve got her in a covered dog crate in the heated garage. I don’t believe she has an egg stuck. I just found a bloody egg. I tried to gently feel...
hi. I’m a relative newbie. I just checked on my girls for the night and found a very bloody egg. I found on of my hens with blood on her backside and what appears to be a “hemeroid” on her vent. I’m assuming it’s prolapse. Researching past posts, I’ll give her a soak to clean her up and keep her...
I’m feeding Nature Smart organic 16% pellet. My husband just came home from work and said that when he let the hens out of their coop this morning the one that died was in the nesting box but had her head in the corner and standing strangely. Could she have been egg bound?
I’ve been feeding mine the formula in the book Fresh Eggs Daily by Lisa Steele. Layer feed, canister of raw oats, shelled sunflower seeds, flax seed, dried herbs, garlic powder, probiotic powder, brewers yeast, and 1 cup diatomaceous earth.
Hi, really need some advice. I have (had) five layer hens, 3 red sex links and 2 Rhode Island reds. Yesterday I noticed a lot of poop on the rear end of one of my Rhode Island reds. I placed her in a sink of warm water and soaked it off. After that she seemed ok. I went out to check on her today...
