    I love my barred rocks. I currently have 7 hens 1 rooster, 4 pullets, 1 cockerel, and 4 chicks. I get 6-7 eggs from my hens all year long!!

    Yes corn right before bed time help generate more heat in the colder months and for your other question, my birds also stop laying when they molt and slow down in the shorter days as well.

    This is my first winter with my flock and here in Eastern NC the lows dip into the mid to upper 20's some time but most nights stay above freezing. Form what im reading my birds shouldn't need any extra heat source with our temps. Am I accurate to assume they will be fine without a heat lamp...

    Ive learned that most of the time they don't need our help. They are born knowing what to do and broody hens know exactly how to take care of their chicks. Let momma do the work and sit back and watch nature.

    8 month old chickens are not laying

    That's where I shop as well....Maybe I overlooked it. I will be asking about this on my next trip. SO do you use this in place of the starter crumble for chicks or do you feed starter for a little while first
