My coop is fine its this set of birds that are hard headed. I know how to manage ventilation and temps as well. Just looking for tips to convince these rascals to go in on their own
Yes I have plenty of ventilation and 2 windows and my set up is exactly like my laying coop other than its about half the size. Don't have exact measurements with me at work but I've had 3 sets in this coop now and first set never did and the third set seems to be going the same direction. I...
I have five 6-8 week old barred rocks that I moved from the brooder to the grow out coop about a week ago. They are doing great but at night they will not climb their ramp and go inside the coop. Thy lay in the run every night until I go out and pick them up and stick them in the coop and then...

This is my first winter with my flock and here in Eastern NC the lows dip into the mid to upper 20's some time but most nights stay above freezing. Form what im reading my birds shouldn't need any extra heat source with our temps. Am I accurate to assume they will be fine without a heat lamp...
Ya know, I ask mine questions all the time and they look at me like I'm crazy. I also WANT to help and I also monitor closely especially the last couple days. I ma on day 19 in my incubator and I cant walk by without taking a peek
I wasn't suggesting to completely ignore the process but to many people get to involved and manipulate the situation to much as if the hens don't know what to do
Ive learned that most of the time they don't need our help. They are born knowing what to do and broody hens know exactly how to take care of their chicks. Let momma do the work and sit back and watch nature.
That's where I shop as well....Maybe I overlooked it. I will be asking about this on my next trip. SO do you use this in place of the starter crumble for chicks or do you feed starter for a little while first
