    Introducing geese & goslings

A few months ago I bought four goslings after doing extensive research and I love them. Two Romans and Two Pomeranians. They’re about 3.5 months now, and I’ve been offered two more goslings, which are Chinese. They’re about 1.5-2 months old. I’ll be picking them up in a week, and I was...

    Amount of Geese vs Ganders

I’m new to geese this year, and I’m used to chickens. I have three breeds, Roman Tufted, Pomeranian Saddlebacks and Brown Chinese. I have two of each breed, and I believe one female of each and one male of each. That puts me at three geese and three ganders. With chickens, that ratio is way...

    Guess the Gender!

I am acquiring five chicks on Monday and I’d like to see if anyone wants to gamble at the genders. 1 is a Barred Rock, 2 & 3 are Ayam Cemani/Ameraucana crosses and 4 & 5 are Ameraucanas. They’re all two weeks old.

    Is 2 nesting boxes enough?

I have 4 nesting boxes and about 13 hens who are currently laying. Almost all of them fight over one box. They also aren’t afraid to crowd together. So yes, 2 boxes is enough for 6 hens.

    Looking for recommendations *Ontario, Canada*

I’m looking to buy Salmon Faverolles and Svart Hona hatching eggs, but it turns out they are both very hard breeds to come by. Does anybody know of an owner or hatchery who carries eggs or chicks and ships to/inside of Canada? Thanks in advance.

    Cross Breeds!!!!

This is Fawkes! She’s seven months old, and I’m fairly sure half her parentage is leghorn, but does anyone have any clue what her other half is? She can fly a pretty good distance, and sometimes she gets a little flighty. She’s not laying yet. Thanks in advance

    Cross Breeds!!!!

Here’s my Crested Svart Hona mix. Pretty sure her other half is leghorn. She’s about 7 months old, incredibly smart and she loves cuddles. I’ll put up a full body pic later.

    Recently became crazy chicken lady..

Welcome to BYC! If you’re looking at all into good layers, I would suggest an Australorp. I have one, her name is Lady and she lays jumbo sized eggs daily. She’s about 8 months old now. She’s all black, and she shines purple and green. Not to mention that’s she’s incredibly sweet, she doesn’t...

    Ducks And Geese

Thanks so much! I understand that it’s pretty unlikely to hatch all ganders but it was just a worry in the back of my mind so I figured I might as well ask :)

FIRST EGG! So excited, but has speckles? Advice?

Haha! I think we all react like that when we get our first egg!

FIRST EGG! So excited, but has speckles? Advice?

Speckled eggs are totally normal! Especially for new layers. Some chickens will lay speckled eggs all their lives, I have an EE who lays pink eggs with white speckles. They freaked me out at first but after some research I discovered it’s totally fine. Just like what everyone else is saying!

    Bagged leaves in run?

I use leaves all the time to cover the snow so they’ll actually go out in our run. They love it! And it’s hilarious to watch them scratch through it.

    Ducks And Geese

In the spring I’m planning on hatching ducks and geese together but I know there’s a good chance that the geese could all be ganders. Should I be concerned that-if that is the case-the ganders might try to pair with the duck hens? If the problem arises can it be fixed by getting the ganders...

    Looking to Buy Duck Eggs

In the spring I would like to hatch my own ducks but I’m having trouble finding duck hatching eggs online for the breeds I want. I’m also potentially looking for fertile goose eggs. I’ll be looking to buy eggs around late February to early March 2018. Does anyone know of any good hatcheries that...
