HELP! Dying (?) Frizzle Bantam Cochin Hen.

She just passed. I am devastated. She seemed to perk up for several days. I don’t know what happened, but I pray it isn’t contagious.

Comment by 'KelseyCochin' in article 'How To Incubate & Hatch Chicken Eggs - Just 21 Days From Egg To Chicken!'

In my relatively short time as a chicken fanatic, I’ve learned that the incubation process is more forgiving than I initially anticipated. I nearly drove myself to lunacy obsessing over that first batch, but I soon learned that just like in nature, fluctuations are normal. I also realized never...

HELP! Dying (?) Frizzle Bantam Cochin Hen.

Earlier this evening, I checked on my babies as always. I immediately noticed my gorgeous frizzle was barely moving. I thoroughly inspected her. I brought her inside to dropper-feed her electrolyte-infused water (made just for chickens). She is eating and drinking, but she’s quite...

Thank you! I feel so flattered! I have now added three ducks to my flock. All are getting along great. My greatest hope is to help my students succeed and be happy in the field they choose, but I would gladly take credit for inspiring some to become vets or scientists.

You are too sweet! We are currently studying the human body, so I’ve been dissecting sheep hearts for them to investigate. So much fun!

Topic of the Week - Sexing Chicks

I haven’t been at this long, but I think the old standbys are pretty reliable. Plus as with candling eggs, the more observations you make, the keener your eye becomes. Almost instinctual. Wing shape and feathering. The larger, lower wings with faster pin feathers tend to be pullets. The smaller...

Thank you. What you said touched my heart. Being a teacher, I certainly try not to force my students into the science field, but I would be beyond thrilled if I was able to help them realize a passion for animals or any branch of science. My oldest girl is already determined to be a scientist!

Thanks! I will keep you all posted on our progress. We even have a cute little money box I designed that says “Our Farm” that I gave my fiancé for Christmas. Symbolic, but significant I think.

Chicken Newbie- 4 months and counting...

It’s so nice to have a community who understands the difficulty of re-homing precious babies. Luckily they are in good hands and I’ve been updated on their progress. I don’t regret getting so many at once because I was luckily able to select the ones I felt were best so far as temperament and...
