I have Marans, RIReds, Wyandottes & mostly white leghorns & the leghorns being smallest are faster, roost higher & seem more alert to anything that moves.
I was thinking it may have had something to do with the rats because we had a sudden influx. Put it in traps inside the feed room. Rats would have had to take it in the chickenhouse. Could have as occasionally find one dead under feed trough. But necropsy said Marek's. I thought it was ratproof...

My rooster died in the night. Vet says Marek's He was in with 5 hens & his brother separated from 4 other roosters by only chicken wire walls. Anyone know how long it takes Marek's to run it's course in 1 bird? & What am I facing with the other 10 in that chickenhouse? Is my other chickenhouse...

15 mo. Black Copper Maran has no ability to grip for roost. Comb pale. Head back to swallow raises feet unless he swerves head back & forth but still needs help to lower head back down. Eating & drinking well. Walks heavy-footed. Poop fine. Feathers beautiful. Anyone seen this behavior?
