I do about 44sq ft in just a few minutes with it
I was about 25ft away and my 50lbs dog was about 15ft away when the hawk attacked. Granted she didn't know what to do when he attacked and I was the one running over to my save my chicken but neither me or my dog's presence deterred the hungry hawk
Well I am pretty new to this so just passing info along that is already here but just in case someone else who is new missed it. If you ever hear someone say that Hawks only hunt in the morning and afternoon know that is not true. I let the girls out about 45 minutes from sunset (7pm) and...
Like that idea and I definately could. That part of the coop and run is totally encased with hardware cloth. I did add an extension that just uses 2in chicken wire but I have to open door from the secure one. This is a really good thought and then in the winter I could just screw them back on
I would love to have a rooster but I am only on an acre and the neighbors would not be happy with me... I couldn't do it anyway (keeping them locked up) and let them out yesterday evening. I just stayed close by. THey have a big run now and is about 100 sq ft for the 3 of them but they are...
Hey aart I wanted to say thanks for bringing up the ventilation. I decided the best way was to see for myself so went in it and closed the door. Sure enough you were right. Ended up going from 12 holes to 18
Phewww close call yesterday. I was about 25ft away and my 50lbs dog about 15ft away from my 3 fully grown Black Orpingtons (they are by no means small). My back was to them and I heard the scream and turned an saw one running across the yard. I looked to my left and then saw the hawk (who btw...
I went to a local place and got 1/2 yard of "River Sand" for $22. Also only half of my run is covered and it does fine in the rain. It is a lot like the beach when a wave comes in and the water just soaks through it.
Thank you for thoughts on ventilation. I am in N Georgia so can get pretty warm in the summer. I have 4 holes on the front and both sides and there is no door just an open walk through to the run. It’s also in a shaded area but you have me thinking. I am going to add more As the 3in holes...
I am glad I joined as well. Some great stuff on here. It took me 2.5 weekends. I found a 4ft x 50ft roll of hardware cloth on amazon for a great price so figured I might as well do the bottom of it as well. BTW that is a VERY nice tractor coop you have
Finally finished it up. The coop is 4x4 and the run 11x4. There are only 3 hens and they free range when I am home. Coop and Run are fully encased with 1/2in hardware cloth and lined with about 5in of river sand. They seem to like it and laying happily so I am pretty pleased with it...
