I have a similar situation with one of my girls! She's a black sexlink who's rather portly and the same age as yours and has a hard time making it to the coop (it's elevated from the ground). I've given her a ramp and a few other tools to help her get up there safely herself, but she's stubborn...
Oh no, I'm so sorry for y'all's loss! :hugs Rose must've been really special to y'all... Both the hens I've recently lost were Buff Orpingtons too, so I definitely feel the pain... Sounds like the school coop could use an upgrade if possible, really sorry that keeps happening to you guys!! ;o;
(Sorry for the ultra late response, life's been hectic!)
Tillie was sucha sweetheart!! I'm so sorry for your loss and the way she had to go... but what a wonderful girl! It's clear how much you both loved each other. She reminds me a lot of a few of my own~ :love❤
Thanks so much for saying so! :hugs It really is, so I figured it'd be good to start something like that here. I'll be sure to respond to your post there soon, I read all of it, your sweet girl was so lovely! 💖
I also made a thread about grieving, if that would help anyone here! I know I always feel better knowing that someone's dealt with the same things as me, and talking seems to help, too. Besides, a thread is cheaper (and prolly safer rn) than therapy! :p
I don't really see a thread dedicated to this already, so I figured I'd make one myself! I recently lost one of my sweetest girls in such a tragic way, and dealing with it has been extremely difficult. It's only been one day, so the pain is still very fresh, and I'd like to do something good...
A heart really is a heavy burden! :hugs Oh man, I sure have too... I think I honestly cried about losing one hen for nearly a year, about three years ago! Like to've killed me lol. She still means the world to me. Very sorry that it still affects you even now, but that shows how much ya loved...
Thanks so much for your sympathy and for your help before. :hugs It's definitely been hitting me hard to go thru my day without her, so I appreciate it. Hopefully one of these days the pain'll lessen a bit. :hugs
I don't have any advice on this subject, just wanted to send my well wishes to your girl! I will say that since she's still eating, that's always a very good sign in my experience, and I hope she'll shake it off soon!
That's the truth!! This is thankfully the first loss I've had like this, others were from predators, not from disease. So sorry for any losses you've had too. Thank you so much again, yesterday was rough, but today's been better! 💖
Thank ya for your kindness. :hugs It's definitely been a hard day. I'm super sorry you had to deal with something similar! It's awful to see and to go thru, but I reckon we did all we could.
I'm sorry to report that she passed away this morning in my arms. I think she waited just long enough for me to see her one last time... There's no doubt it was from either sour crop or an impaction or both because when she left me, all that awful fluid came spilling out of her beak again. She...
Sorry for the late response, I didn't receive an email notification for some reason! I really appreciate your help and kind words, thanks so much. :hugs
Yeah, it's starting to seem that way, because treating her for sour crop isn't really making her improve, but she also isn't getting worse...
Hi @TwoCrows ! I just read your article on impacted, slow, and sour crops and it was super informative, thanks for takin' the time to write all that out way back when! I was wondering, could you please maybe provide some more insight on my girl's case specifically? I'm a bit lost on what else to...
I'm sorry for your hen too, this process definitely ain't fun! We're at day 2 for my girl, and from what I've read, it typically takes a week for a yeast infection to get gone, so keep after it! Thanks very much for keeping me posted, hopefully we'll both get thru this soon enough!
I'm dealing with something similar for the past few days, have you had any luck with what you tried? Please, lemme know! Best wishes for you and your hens~
Hi there! I'm in quite the pickle with one of my girls, Ducky, right now. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!
Long story short: I found lice on her yesterday, gave her a dusting of permethrin + diatomaceous earth + quarantined her, then realised she's been dealing with a sour or...
Hi there chicken folk! I'm having a bit of a dilemma. I have a black australorp hen named Fanny who is five years old. Though she's about middle aged, she normally seems quite healthy and vibrant. Howeeeever, she has laid two soft shelled eggs recently, and she has also been seen having a bit of...
Update for today: She's doing so much better! Her normal appetite is mostly back, though she still won't eat everything that's put in front of her like usual. I think the epsom salt baths and the penicillin were the most helpful from what I could tell! Thanks everyone so much again for their...
