I foolishly relied on WDFW for information. 😊 Since then I've had a few folks tell me they have seen turkeys in my area. She still lives here and we're all quite happy about it.
My rooster is Lucy (some say short for Lucifer but actually a RIR who was misidentified as a chick). I have an Australorp and a BCM that I can tell apart .... Sophia and Lorretta ..... four white Leghorn that I creatively call "The Leghorns" and three Barred Rocks that are all called "Chubby". 😊
I also use fly traps .... the stinky bag type. I could tell the difference one hour after I hung one up. Honestly! I have filled six this summer. They aren't too stinky if they aren't disturbed, reasonably priced and really work. I put FSL and Sevin in the house but for smell and mite...
I saved a long, thin piece of plywood to use as an extra llloonnggg arm to hard and encourage new, reluctant pullets back into the coop. I also use the ubiquitous ice scraper and a stable fork. When I clean out all the chips, I use a snow shovel as a "dust pan" .... not cheap but indispensable...
There really isn't any turkeys or turkey hunting around here. I am in very coastal Washington state. Where she came from is a great mystery to me. She was never afraid of us.
I didn't feed her anything for a long time and she still stuck around. Shes free to leave anytime. You're making...
Oh, I'm keeping them I like them a lot. They've been laying these small eggs for about three months now ... with an occasional regular one. It's just new to me.
Don't feel bad! I think that's a very nice starter hen house. In addition to a diverter or closure on that long vent directly in line with the roosts, I would turn the roosts to the flat side. I wouldn't do any roof or wall cutting. Nothing major. I would add smaller fencing right over the...
A couple of months ago, when we got back from vacation, we found a female turkey hanging out with our chickens. I've been assured by a turkey hunter that she is a wild turkey. She's dark brown with gorgeous, iridescent feathers. No one around here has turkeys and there aren't supposed to be...
I don't think it's a comparison issue. The eggs rattle around in an egg carton. :-)
No, I think they all started around 4-5 months.
My other hens are four Leghorns and one Marans. They, of course, lay the occasional fairy egg but they never laid consistently small eggs.
Same feed always...
I don't find my Barred Rocks to be any less "friendly" than my Leghorns, Marans or Australorp. My RIR rooster is, oddly, my nicest chicken.
I've had about 2 dozen of these tiny eggs so far. (They make cute deviled eggs.) I just don't understand why they are staying small? The chickens are...
They have been laying for about a month and all four (3 Barred Rocks, 1 Australorp) are laying tiny eggs. I don't think I've ever had a chicken do this? They get Purina Layena, free choice oyster and grit and free range 2-3 hours a day.
Why are my five month old Barred Rocks continually laying small ... 2 inch .... eggs? They are good eggs, yolk and all, but they have been laying them for almost a month now. All three of them lay tiny eggs almost every day.
