Right now I can't effectively check the temperature in the incubator but it was factory set at 99.5 (I know that is no guarantee). The eggs were not jostled, at least not from the time I received them. The room where the incubator is stays pretty constant between 70-75 degrees, no drafts, out of...
I'm looking for some input from others more experienced with incubating than I am. Right now I'm feeling pretty discouraged but from everything I had researched and read I believe I did everything right. I incubated 16 eggs, 5 black copper marans, 5 cream legbars, 1 olive egger, and 5 golden...
Thank you everyone for the information, advice, and the time it took to share it all with me!. My goal is to build their immunity. The chicks were not vaccinated. I had read recently where the medicated feed helped to gradually build immunity. If introducing them to my soil s sufficient I would...
My chicks are now 3 weeks old and I started them on non-medicated feed. I am now considering switching them to medicated. The medicated vs. non-medicated debate aside, would starting them 3 weeks in offer any benefit? They have not been introduced to the outside area yet, other than some dirt I...
Has anyone used this for their coop (specifically coop floor?) and if so, how do you like it? I read an old thread from 2012 that mentioned it, but no other thread came up in search. We are thinking of using it for the coop floor and was wondering how easy it is to clean. While the description...
That's what I did too for the same reason. Worried about the potency for longterm. A question for you though. There were quite a few small chunks (2-3mm or more) in my package, while the rest was more of a powder. I used the back of a spoon to crush the chunks as well as I could but even after 4...
Thank you. I'm trying to stay optimistic but still be prepared for the worst. The breeder said this morning if she is cuddled in among the others try to leave her alone as much as possible, only disturbing her every 2 to 4 hours. I have a webcam in the brooder courtesy of my son so that is the...
I've put her back in with the others this morning (three hours ago) and they are leaving her alone but she is not eating or drinking and just stands there and chirps. I've managed to give her a very tiny amount of a slurry of chick feed and electrolyte water but not sure it is enough to make a...
Thank you. I'm afraid she passed away before this post. I was able to get some water and electrolytes in her but she went down pretty quickly. I feel pretty awful about it
Thank you. I'm not going to mess with it. It is drying up and the chick isn't happy about being isolated but if I put it with the others it gets pecked so it will just have to deal with it. It is nice and cozy under an eco-glow with its own food and water. It can get social when it is doing...
Thank you! I didn't see that this had posted and just posted another thread saying that I had isolated the chick for just that reason. Can you tell if the stuff to the left is poop or part of the egg sac? I know the picture is bad so maybe not easy to tell.
Day one for chicks that just arrived. One I already posted about. Checked again on them and I have one that looks like its vent hole is protruding and something dangling from it. There is blood. I've attached a picture. It is not as active as the others but not lethargic.
There is nothing open here now. I have been trying to give it Durvet electrolytes/vitamins but it won't take it from a syringe. It won't raise its head now.
My chick order arrived today (yay!) and one of them has a bad leg. It is not eating or drinking like the other chicks and it is favoring the leg. Upon close inspection it appears to have a bruise or some other type of discoloration and swelling. Not sure what to do. I've attached a picture.
The breeder who sold me the chicks told me today that she takes the whole 8 ounce (not concentrate) packet, dissolves it all in a gallon of water and then adds an ounce of that per gallon of water to give her chicks and chickens. She keeps her 'mother' solution in a dark place.
