A few months ago, my lone mallard was attacked by a hawk, and definitely cried later thst night. He was distraught, silent, and faced the wall for a couple of days, but otherwise fine. We had arranged to pick up 3 Campbell hens the following weekend to give my Prescott proper company, and y'all...
Now, I will block off the dog door, and let Prescott roam the house for 4 and a half hours while we go pick out 3 hens for him, as planned!! We shall see if tnat perks him up past normal. I still have the ladder work to do on their sanctuary. Thank you, everybody, for your help, advice, and...
Ugh, really? Thank you!! It means more work, but I'm doing it to keep them safe and secure. My frame is 9.5 ft. tall at the eve, so you can see my plight!
Prescott is doing great this morning! He's still pretty quiet, I think he's still in pain, but curious again!!
I am still learning, but, if it is secured in a way that cannot be moved by a strong bird of prey, or flown through, yes. If the netting is secured to a corner post 4' + and layed on it's side along the basd of thr structure, I think that would work. It would need to drape down tightly though. I...

What does it sound like when doves cry?
Much to the dismay of the artist formerly known as the artist formerly known as Prince...
:-) He's coming along, trying to bend to groom, but can't quite reach yet. I don't know yet if ducks have tear duc(t)s ;-) He has has mostly supervised time outside, and his flock, do far, is myself a jack-russel terrier mix, and a mastiff. My husband works a lot, and my old cat sleeps in a...
That makes sense. She did grab him twice. I don't believe that the attack gave him an eye infection, or that ducks cry, but clear liquid is still seeping from his eyes. I will go to town with my staple gun, and finish sewing all wire pannel layers tight together with steel wire, as I have been...
My Prescott was attcked by a hawk today, in his "sanctuary", while U was cutting wood for it!!! She flew in through a hole in the framework, cause that's all I had so far, and he kicked her ass!!! He fought her off, and went to the pool to dive. She tried one more time before he was under water...
That's the scary part: the tippy top of the ladder, on uneven ground, over an 18"water pit, with chivken wire in one hand and a staple gun in thr other!! Que the cameras!
I plan on lining the pond correctly with heavy liner and a filter ASAP, and widening the shallow area the whole width for mating. That will make it a full 18"deep, and eliminate the cinderblocks. I've had to ne extremely resourceful.
Thank you. I want my hens to be be happy as rainbows, like Prescott. His flock is made of myself, Buddy- a very patient male mastiff, and Geoge- an older jack-russel terrier mix, who always looses the dominace challenge, running away with Prescott attached. Will one hen get depressed when I...
