    Unsteady Hen

Hi Everyone, I just thought I should let anyone know that I took Celine to the vets where she had an X-Ray which showed a large tumorous mass over her ovaries. The vet advised that whilst she was still eating and drinking, she was at a point where she was unable to walk and her quality of life...

Thankyou, I'm still holding on to hope that it isn't. Fingers crossed.

    Unsteady Hen

She is eating and drinking but probably not as much as usual (gobbled up a few extra sultanas) I did add some kilverm to their water recently although it had been a long time since I had wormed them. I haven't noticed any worms in her poop.

    Unsteady Hen

Hello Everyone, I've been trolling through the forums trying to find the best course of action to take with one of my 2 year old Pekin bantams Celine. Celine has been unsteady on her feet, particularly her right foot which she seems to hold off the ground at times. Occasionally she will have a...

    Day 22 Freaking out

Thanks Alaskan! I candled the eggs again today - I have discarded all but three; which appeared much darker than the others. The chick (now named Bottichelli) is eating, has access to water (I have been at work so I have not actually seen it drink) and appears to be quite content and active...

    Day 22 Freaking out

So I just attempted to candle the eggs with a torch; mumma was very patient with me. I could definitley see the air sac and an area that was dark, no movement however or chirping. It has just started pouring with rain so I may check again tomorrow? Chick is still happy under mum.

    Day 22 Freaking out

Thankyou - This is good to know - She seems very reluctant to be moved from the nest so I had throught it would be best to leave her, but I will candle the eggs! :)

    Day 22 Freaking out

I was wondering this too?. At this point I would be candling to see if the eggs contained a chick.

    Day 22 Freaking out

My hen is a bantam too! Day 25, wow! Mum has food and water close by, I just hand fed her some corn while she continues to sit on the eggs (its her favourite) Thankyou for your advice. :)

    Day 22 Freaking out

Also I have mum and chick seperated from the other hens. Thankyou so much for your advice. I will candle the remaining eggs tomorrow.

    Day 22 Freaking out

I do not have any more broody hens or an incubator. I had read somewhere that taking the eggs out from under the hen may cause any viable chicks to become 'shrink wrapped' even if it is just for a short amount of time?

    Day 22 Freaking out

Hello all, I'm a complete newbie to hatching baby chicks. I have a hen sitting on 16 eggs it's now day 22 or 23. One egg hatched on day 21(rough day 21 could have been 20). My hen has not left the nest yet and is still sitting on the remaining eggs. Just wondering if I should move mum to check...
