    Coop "doesn't need ventilation"

10 cheeps. :) 4 Rhode Island and 6 leghorns but the Rhode islands have a lot of white feathers (at week 5) so Im wondering if they will turn all brown or if I've ended up with a cross between the 2.

    Coop "doesn't need ventilation"

She had chickens like 20 years ago. I did have a coop of my own, but it turned out to be in terible disrepair so she offered to let me keep them here. This is temporary x 1 year.

    Coop "doesn't need ventilation"

Just built up our run, a basic fencing scheme all along the perimeter of the coop. It's a bit of a work in progress... coop and run. can I ventilate this coop effectively without making major alterations?? It is not my coop and I'm under the watchful eye of the coop owner! She said I cannot...

Can I take away the bulb now?

There are no windows! I want to put some in asap. Today I have folks coming over to help build a run. There is a chicken door I can use to check on them.

Can I take away the bulb now?

This is their second night outside, ever. It's going down to 3*C tonight and 0*C tomorrow night. :( I'm worried about them. I worry that's just too cold too soon. But to check on them, I'd be opening the door and losing heat.

Can I take away the bulb now?

Yes I’m well aware, thanks ;) but I have to ask... where do the little green apples fit in?? :lau Is that an expression? I’ve never heard it, got a good laugh :p

Can I take away the bulb now?

Temps are low, early spring, highs around 54F, lows around 35F. I use Celsius but those are the conversions I got. Sounds like they would be good to start outdoor time and be out in the coop day by the end of the week? :)

Can I take away the bulb now?

It’s 72 degrees in here. The bulb makes the place too hot for myself and the chicks. I put a 60 watt normal bulb in for now to give a little comfort. Here they are. They don’t seem cold at all, splaying our their feathers sometimes. Just curious if o can pull the red bulb now and have no...

It’s a feeder! Eat the feed!

So great. And I’m sorry for your loss. I would have been devastated. My 10 are 3 weeks old too :). 6 leghorn and 4 Rhode Island’s. I think I almost lost 1 of mine to dehydration. I woke at 2am by chance to her getting pecked by everyone. She made a full recovery almost overnight. But what a joy...

It’s a feeder! Eat the feed!

Omg perfect. I just bought plain probiotic yogurt and wasn’t sure how to go about it :) :) What age do you start treating them to things like that? Or say an egg?

It’s a feeder! Eat the feed!

Hats off to you. I wet their feed just now and they are going wild!!

It’s a feeder! Eat the feed!

Thanks, ya. I did a good tap and I actually had the bright idea to A) open it, let them figure out there’s food in here, close it again. That seemed to spark some interest. And B) I took a small scoop and filled the feeder to the brim by just pouring more on top once it was in there for all to...

It’s a feeder! Eat the feed!

I don’t think they’re getting it. Can I teach them to use this? I assumed it would be a no brainer. The feeder I originally wanted is on back order. Of course. :he

    No longer interested in crumble?

:love Hi. Just got them fed and watered for the morning. Here are a few snaps. There are 10 chicks and they turned 3 weeks old on Monday. :love I think they are more comfortable. They all huddle nearest the light at night but not on top of each other. They mess in their water less with this...

    No longer interested in crumble?

Uhhh so this is what I rigged for the moment. I realize it’s kind of atrocious. I was trying to get the temperatures under control so they can cool off properly. So now there is about a 10 point (Fahrenheit) difference from each side. And now they all have more room. So I guess that’s a plus...

    No longer interested in crumble?

I picked up probiotic yogurt today actually. :) Still working on a more suitable space. Pics to follow!

    No longer interested in crumble?

Actually, that leads to a question I have. When I received the chicks, they were 1 week old and the lady said they were kept at 80 degrees. As far as turning the temps down goes, I worked them up to 90 week one, -5 per week after that. If they were used to 80 and week 3 still at around 85, could...
