Is she on the way out? Swollen, off her food and not moving much :(

We did look into doing it ourselves but decided to leave it to the professionals this time. Thanks for your help and messages, been really nice to get some advice. All the best with your flock!

Is she on the way out? Swollen, off her food and not moving much :(

Update if you're following: we took our girl into the vet this morning and had her put down. She was really, really unwell so it was the kindest thing. Thanks for your advice on diagnosis, great to have a forum to turn to!

Is she on the way out? Swollen, off her food and not moving much :(

Thanks for the reply. I thought Ascites might be the cause. Doesn't sound like EYP (but I'm basing that on very little). I hate to think of her suffering because we've not been proactive so we'll take her in to the vet tomorrow. Will update on her condition. Just out of interest, do you put...

Is she on the way out? Swollen, off her food and not moving much :(

Continuing on from an earlier thread, one of my girls is going downhill. She an ex-battery hen and was the slowest to recover after the cages but she's tough and has been doing really well until recently. She's probably around 3. Her symptoms are a swollen belly (waterballoon like) and isn't...

Poorly Chicken - any help would be appreciated!

**UPDATE** This girl is going downhill :(. I have given her two epsom baths and yesterday managed to get her to eat and drink - including olive oil and vitamin water. She seemed a little perkier after all that. Today though, she's hardly moving and won't really eat or drink. Her abdomen is...

Poorly Chicken - any help would be appreciated!

Thanks for the response, yes, she's old enough to lay eggs. She's probably near 3 now and they don't lay all that much. Have checked for egg bound symptoms and may try an epsom salt bath tomorrow to see if that helps.

Poorly Chicken - any help would be appreciated!

Great, will try that. She's somewhere in the middle. We have a newer one who is very definitely the bottom - poor thing (she does fine though)!

Poorly Chicken - any help would be appreciated!

Thank you - no, she's not staying particularly separate from what I can tell (although I haven't been able to watch her very much during the day). I'll look into getting her somewhere on her own for a bit and will give some electrolytes and an epsom bath tomorrow. Will update on her condition.

Poorly Chicken - any help would be appreciated!

Hi there, we have 3 ex-battery hens in our garden and yesterday I noticed one of them isn't moving around very well. She's eating and drinking ok - and she is pooping although it's quite green. She will wander around the garden a little but she looks uncomfortable and is all puffed up. I also...
