    Smell of Meat birds

Restricting feed to two 20-minute meals a day after 4 weeks, feeding a wet food like fermented feed, using a large mobile tractor or raising them in a large space with food and water on opposite sides of the pen, even raising them with a few heritage breeds mixed in makes a world of difference...

    Smell of Meat birds

I'm ordering my first bach of Cornish X and am getting everything ready to roll. I wanted to ask you along with others who suggest limiting feed, as to what your end result was for both weights and butcher dates. Did you butcher at 8 weeks, and what were the average weights? There seems to be...

    Supplementing with vegetable scraps

I get all of the blemished produce from a local supermarket. I’m curious if I can feed this to my Cornish cross, and if so will this alter the flavor of the meat? Thanks!

    Fermented feed:is this batch safe!?

I Stir daily, sometimes more. The jar (a large pickle jar) has several holes in the lid, which is all that I use to close it. I’ve been doing my fermenting in the shed, and temps have been in the low 90’s so definitely hotter in the shed.

    Fermented feed:is this batch safe!?

This is my fermented feed, it’s 3 days old tomorrow morning and ideally should be fed to my flock. This is the same water I used to ferment their feed 3 days ago. This batch, unlike the others has this white bubbly film on top. Is it safe?

Can I move the chicks out?

I have some chicks that i purchased on the 3rd of may. That’s the day they were delivered to the local Feed store. They have been under a heat lamp since inside the garage. Most feathers except for the ones on their head are already in. I live in Eastern NC where the highs are consistently 85-90...

    Smell of Meat birds

Hi, I have a flock of 10 chickens that I keep in my backyard. The lot that I live on is just under 1 acre. Someone told me I should shy away from raising Cornish cross due to their smell. I was curious if this “problem” is as serious as they are saying it is. How much worse are they from a...

    How much feed??

I currently feed my chickens laying pellets (16%) and regular chicken scratch from the farm up the road, as well as table scraps. Curious as to how much, I should ideally be feeding them. Also- considering fermenting their feed, supposedly they eat less, how much is less? I have a flock of 9, 8...

    Balloon Like Belly

Thanks, I’m pretty sure I got an egg from her. Had 3 Easter eggers in my flock, one couldn’t lay eggs (culled her 2 days ago) and recently had a day when I collected 2 Easter eggs. The area is swollen from the belly down to between the legs.

    Balloon Like Belly

Hi, I have an easter egger (unsure of age) that has a water balloon like feel to her abdomen. I noticed it the other day whenever I was treating my flock for mites. There appears to be A LOT of water build up. Any suggestions?
