I have a very entertaining flick of 7 ladies a little over 2 years old. One of my Golden Wyandotte’s did not molt this past fall abs looking scruffier by the day. She seems healthy otherwise, although she is much smaller then the others. She’s energetic and curious, the first to check new things...
Ive got a Golden Wyandotte a little over a year old that has become severely broody! She sits in a nesting box all day every day with or without eggs. I’ve tried taking her out and making her stay out of the nesting boxes for over a week but it’s not breaking her of this. She doesn’t appear to...
No she is not an avian vet, she is a rural vet with chicken experience. I will find an avian vet though. And I will take them back to be seen again in the meantime as well as making the suggested changes.
The first pictures are of the 2 girls who affected worst, they looking a little better once the antibiotics were finished. The last 2 pictures are the same girls this fall fat, happy and heathy. When I took them to the vet she checked for lice/mites and checked their crops. I’m not sure if they...
The first pictures are the 2 girls affected most when they started looking better after the antibiotics were finished, the last 2 are the same girls a few months ago fat, happy and healthy. I’m not sure if they were vaccinated but I can find out
My girls are only 9 months old so they shouldn’t be molting and the feathers are definitely breaking off leaving quills like a porcupine. I know antibiotics don’t treat a virus but there is great value in preventing a secondary infection. The vet does have experience with chickens, not sure...
We are in Colorado so rapid large temp changes are the norm and quite a bit of wind. Very dry with occasional snow. I clear the snow out of the run since my gals absolutely will not walk on snow. I did have straw and alfalfa down for a couple months but have since cleaned all that out and now...
I have 5 9 month old hens, 3 Barred Rocks and 2 Golden Wyandotte’s. For more then a month now 2 of the Barred Rocks have looked anemic and are losing weight and feathers. Combs and wattles are shriveled and very pale almost gray. Vet said most likely a virus and gave me 5 days of antibiotics to...
Just wanted to post an update Incase anyone else has this problem. I gave my hen some VetRX, under her wings and on her beak and a little in the water. In an hour her voice was a little better. Today she is back to her normal noisy self. She also laid her first egg yesterday. So, not exactly...
Totally coincidental but I did give them yogurt treats today! I mix it with fruit and veg then freeze it for treats on hot days. I didn’t even think of it adding calcium. The GW’s ate it too but it’s not a lot...Thanks!
