Thank you so much 😊 I sure hope so! And yeah my vet is a superhero! She deserves a medal or a key to the city, something! Definitely making her a nice card and giving her some eggs!
Update! After getting her out of the bath I flipped her over and examined her over better. Realized I had it allll wrong it wasn't her vent at all... She had been sliced open by something 😩! Huge gash in her belly God knows how she got it but I called my vet immediately and thankfully she was...
She's 4 or 5 here's a photo of her. Yeah not overnight she had been laying in her box thought she was going to hatch chicks had no idea this was going on 😖
She had been laying on a batch of eggs for a few days straight didn't think anything was wrong since a few of my hens just hatched babies. Today she was out of her box laying on the ground let me pick her right up I noticed an awful smell right away I rolled her over and saw this... I feel so...
She definitely seems to be a good mama for never doing this before :). We're up to three babies! And apparently Helga doesn't want the responsibility she's just abandoned another nest and is currently taking a dirt bath in the sun...
Benny is still sitting because there's a butt load of eggs that haven't hatched. And she has been sweet to the chicks cleaning them and letting em hop all over her I just wish she'd get up and show them how to catch bugs and stuff.. not sure if I should pick her and the chicks up and put em out...
No Benny is not broody like I said I got her from tractor supply and she's an old hen about 6 yrs old. She's never hatched her own chicks. Helga on the other hand was raised by the best broody hen I've ever had and has had 3 batches of her own chicks. I put food and water in there like I said...
Hello not sure what to do here. Had one of our broody hens laying on a batch of eggs her name is Helga. Somewhere along the line Helga got up and an older non broody hen got on the eggs her name is Benny. Helga was raised by a broody hen on our farm and Benny was bought from tractor supply...
@PirateGirl I read those articles and gave the feeling process a second go... Cut my fingernails.. ha.. put on gloves and put a big wad of vaseline on my finger and put my whole finger in there and didn't feel anything.. just made her go poop(this is the right hole right?). So I guess this isn't...
@Melky & @EggSighted4Life Should I continue with the epsom salt baths or anything else until I can get her proper help? She seems to really enjoy the baths.. I just want her to be as comfortable as possible
Thanks
@Melky Thanks so much for the info I will get her to the vet as soon as I can which is wednesday when I get paid. At the moment I literally have no means to be able to do this for her I feel terrible about it but I'm doing all I can until then..
@EggSighted4Life
When I was giving her a bath I had tried sticking a finger in her vent but it felt super wrong I don't know what the heck I'm doing or what exactly I'm feeling for or how far to go.. thinking to myself is this even the right hole... do chickens have more than one hole...
@EggSighted4Life Thanks so much for the speedy response. What can I do for her if she's laying internally? I'm not exactly sure how old she is as I have quite a large mix of 29 chickens from ages 5-1 and have taken in a lot of chickens from friends but she looks like an older hen. Also not sure...
So I've had my sick chicken indoors for a few days now since I first noticed her walking around like a penguin. I've had this problem with other chickens before and usually a good soak in the washbin with epsom salts does the trick. So far she's had about 4 soaks each a half hour long with me...
In alertness yes, but no on the major things like alertness and mobility.. I'm afraid it's more serious like the others have stated :( but I understand and don't want her to suffer
Thanks for all of your help , you have been extremely informative. I think your right about it being more serious and incurable because she has no appetite nor has shown any improvement on the walking situation either. So I definitely don't want make her suffer..
You guys are a great group thank...
Thanks for your knowledge, that's why I came to this site. I definitely don't want to prolong her suffering but I also didn't want to end her life if she had the chance of getting better. But from the advice I've gotten from this very knowledgeable group and just from daily observations she...
