Hen has scabby comb, advice appreciated!!!

Thank you both! No, she has not been vaccinated for fowl pox. Hopefully if that's what it is, she'll start recovering soon and the rest of the flock won't be affected!

Hen has scabby comb, advice appreciated!!!

Hello friends!!!! I noticed that one of my chooks had some mild scabbing on her comb a few weeks ago, and treated it with peroxide, then colloidal silver, then put Vaseline on it to try to protect it. It hasn't gotten any better and is now spreading! One of her eyes is almost completely swollen...

A good fit for my flock?

Sorry for the disappearing act, lol. YES my mystery birdies are doing REALLY well with my flock!!!! No problems EXCEPT Miss Ellie (the probable Delaware) is at the bottom of the pecking order and prefers to be an outsider instead of getting picked on, but I know chicken hierarchy can change...

A good fit for my flock?

I feel so ignorant, lol, of course the term is gamecock, sorry..... That's something I personally have no interest in, and I guess my main concern is aggression, I want a protective roo, but I don't want him to beat up my girls. But I think that could happen with any breed, honestly. Thanks...

A good fit for my flock?

Thanks, y'all!!! I actually have a separate coop on the property that I could use to quarantine. And if it turns out to not be a good fit for my older girls, they'll still have a place with me.

A good fit for my flock?

I happened to come across an opportunity to rescue 2 chickens who are to be moved to a kill "shelter" because they haven't been able to find anyone to take them. These are the pictures I received of them, one looks male, one looks female, but no idea from my shelter on ages or breeds. The darker...

Is she going to start laying???

He told me he wants to wash them with bleach water and I just wanted to scream! If I can just get him to rinse them with warm water, that'd be a good enough compromise for me! Lol.

Is she going to start laying???

I was running out the door when I took the egg to him, lol, and he told my 4yo son that we have to wash them so we don't get sick, and I told him to look it up, I'd send him some sites to read, but we don't HAVE to wash them, and what I read yesterday on a blog (not scientific, I know!!!) was...

Is she going to start laying???

I need someone to explain to my husband that as long as the egg isn't dirty, we don't have to wash it...... Or maybe I just need to give up and wash them and store them in the fridge so he feels better lol

Is she going to start laying???

I'm so excited!!!! I want to give her space, the leghorns aren't really keen on people, they aren't mean, just aren't fans of the featherless freaks that bring food, lol..... But I have been waiting since March for some eggs!!!! This is just exciting!!!!!!!!!

Is she going to start laying???

I think it's still a bit early, she's about 18 weeks old at this point..... This morning I couldn't find her, usually my 6 ladies hang out together, and I happened to look in the "nesting box" I have next to the main coop, and there she was. She got startled and ran, and then her and the "head...

    Rooster Flock Thread

Absolutely. I had been lured into a false sense of safety because our main coop (where the ladies are) stays open most of the time, but no more. I'll be adding a run and keeping them enclosed. I love the idea of free ranging, but I can't stand to lose any more.

    Rooster Flock Thread

I'm so heartbroken. Something got into the rooster house overnight, I lost all 4. And it's COMPLETELY my fault, I KNEW I needed a better door. I am so upset with myself, I led my boys to slaughter. I couldn't even clean out the run, I was so upset. I will later, and maybe in a few years I might...

    Rooster Flock Thread

Good morning rooster people!!!! Curious if anyone has an opinion on feed blocks. Looking on my favorite website and they have a "flock block" that I'm thinking about. 25 pounds of seed and grain, thinking about putting it up on a ledge in the run. Any suggestions? Glanced at the reviews, they're...

    Rooster Flock Thread

They are getting used to the new pad! They are crowing again, the silent treatment seems to be over, so that makes me happy, I love those crows!!! They are so much more easy going, they act like they can just breathe easier or something. We're renovating our house and living with my parents in...

    Rooster Flock Thread

Hey all! I just recently took my 4 Leghorn roos and put them in their own pad!!! I have 6 pullets, 3 leggies and 3 red stars, and it was just too many cocks in the henhouse! I put them in the new set up 2 days ago, and yesterday when I went to check on them and feed them and everything, they...

    Found my perfect solution!

Ah, good to know! I'll definitely keep an eye on it! The coop I found is reinforced with barbed wire, which is nice except when I forget about it haha!

    The Moonshiner's Leghorns

Okay so now I'm looking at my "boring" plain old white leghorns..... Nah, my birds are absolutely beautiful, I won't even pretend, lol, but now those lavender leghorns...... I think I'm in love. Good job, you have a real knack!!!!!

    Found my perfect solution!

Haha, yeah, it's family land, we just bought 40 acres of it, and so there's old trailers, lots of "junk", and yep, a random coop with 6 nesting boxes, a ladder, stairs, and big run, all completely enclosed. AND I found extra chicken wire in the carport next to the house we're currently...
