I recently acquired my first rooster so when my Copper Maran went broody I decided to let her sit. I’ve marked all the eggs so I know what she started with. I pull her out once a day because I never see her come out on her own for food and water. There’s food and water near the nest box but she...
I haven’t dewormed her. I can definitely try that. She’s not separated from the others. She’s been eating and drinking until yesterday. She didn’t have any water. I let everyone out of the coop in the morning. She rarely leaves the coop. We usually have to put her in the henhouse at night...
I have an almost four year old Buff Brahma. She doesn’t do much anymore. Just lays down. I have to wash poop, etc off her underside because it gets stuck in her feathers in clumps. I don’t know why but she’s been like this for months. I treated scaly leg mites on her. Those seem to be gone. I’ve...
I put the feeder inside the henhouse for now. I don't know why I didn't think of it before. The pig and dogs can't get up the ramp and fit in the henhouse part of the coop. Problem solved. For now.
I got a 3 mos old mini pig who goes into the coop and starts eating out of the chicken feeder. My Great Pyrenees puppies started following suit. I built a short wall, about .18" high at the door that the chickens can hop over. That worked for two months. Now the pig and two puppies are climbing...
I took the outside roosts out for now. I'm going to put them back up, but lower. They are back inside at night now! Thank you to everyone on here so much.
Thank you! My boyfriend and I built it from plans that I purchased off of mypetchicken.com. It's the first thing I've ever built and our first project together! Super happy with it!
Good question. Eventually I want to put an automatic door on the henhouse. I just thought it would be convenient and if we are out of town, I feel like I'd feel better. But the coop does have a skirt to protect from digging predators. I just assumed they were safer inside at night.
We built a new coop for our three year old chickens. This one has roosting poles in the enclosed coop area as well as the henhouse. Every night they fall asleep on the outside poles. I've tried shutting them in the henhouse for a few days (with food and water) but they still want to roost...
