Molting Hen With Very Watery Poop - Not Worms

Hello, I'm wondering if someone might be able to help me figure out why one of my chickens is under the weather. She's a bantam silkie who seems to be going through a pretty big molt - she is in the regrowth process now. About three weeks ago (around the time she began molting), she stopped...

    Coop Bedding and Respiratory Concerns

Hello, I'm wondering if anyone has any input on using wood pellets for coop bedding and respiratory issues in chickens? We've been trying to get to the bottom of respiratory problems in our chickens and we are starting to consider that it might be environmental as opposed to disease (which...

Rooster 'throwing up' mucus, head shaking - help!

Hello, I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience with similar symptoms in their chickens. My rooster has been throwing up mucus/head shaking once or twice daily. The mucus is clear (no blood) In addition, some of my hens are shaking their heads, as well, with the occasional sneeze. I've...

Ongoing Care for Respiratory Illness - not Mycoplasma

Ok, that's good to know! None of the more extreme symptoms seem to be popping up but if it's possible to have more of a mild strain, that could fit. I'm glad the Tylan is having some effect!

Ongoing Care for Respiratory Illness - not Mycoplasma

I'm thinking infectious bronchitis could be a possibility too from the sounds of it. We haven't had any out of the ordinary eggs - they're actually laying well at this time. Luckily, there's been no bubbles in the eyes and/or swelling. When they tested, they took a swab down the throat. It...

Ongoing Care for Respiratory Illness - not Mycoplasma

I don't think they were tested for anything besides mycoplasma.... but they weren't showing any of the symptoms for coryza. They did improve with the Tylan, so it must be having some effect? The vet seemed to think it could possibly be a virus, as well. It's frustrating not knowing! :(

Ongoing Care for Respiratory Illness - not Mycoplasma

Hello, My small backyard flock is currently suffering from a bout with respiratory illness. Aside from sneezing and head shaking, there aren't any other major symptoms at the moment. We've been to a avian vet and they are currently being treated with Tylan orally. I've made the choice to...

Suggestions for supporting chickens during smokey conditions?

Hello, I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for supporting chickens during smokey conditions due to wildfires? The fires aren't near us but the smoke is quite bad. I've limited their exercise to their run so that they are not exerting themselves, as well as providing consistently fresh...

Any Tips on Rooster Collars for Bantams?

Hi Everyone! We recently purchased the No Crow Collar for our bantam cochin rooster. I'm really hoping that it can help with the crowing to some degree, as we aren't allowed roosters where we live and he is very bonded to one of the other chickens in our flock. I'm wondering if anyone has...

Cuckoo Maran - pullet or roo?

That's frustrating! I thought I was making a good choice in buying older, sexed pullets but I'm not so sure now.

Cuckoo Maran - pullet or roo?

Hello, Posting once again about another of our "sexed" pullets - a cuckoo maran. We purchased her at around 4 weeks (which makes her now close to six weeks). These waddles are concerning me!? I'll get another picture of her body...it's very dark all over, unlike a usual cuckoo maran male...

Help! Two of our chickens may be roosters!

I'm sorry that you're going through this dilemma! I'm curious - when did you start to notice that your brahma was displaying rooster characteristics? We recently purchased a 4 week old light brahma "pullet". There are no combs and waddles but "she" has some quirky behaviours. I'd love to hear...

Light Brahma - Pullet or Roo?

Hello, A couple of days ago, we purchased pullets for our backyard chicken coop. They were sold as sexed pullets. They're all pretty mellow but I'm noticing that the Light Brahma is showing some strange behaviours. "She" likes to spook the other chicks and jump at them. I'm so worried that...

    Mycoplasma - is quarantine essential?

I'm hoping that I can nurse them back to health! I did end up contacting the seller and they said that they haven't had any experiences with mycoplasma ever... so I have to take their word for it. I wouldn't want to ruin their financial means... I just hope that none of their other buyers are...
