This is so hard for me to write but the vet appointment did not go well. It seems that her chances of ever walking were very slim and if she ever were to walk it would be with difficulty and because of this she could never be with other chickens because she ran the risk of being severely injured...
Yes. I think thats the issue. I do notice that she seems to prefer to be lying down. When I prop her up on a sitting position I eventually find her lying down. I recently did that when she was next to me and watched her do it. It seems that she is possibly uncomfortable on her legs but as I said...
No she doesnt seem to mind when I move her legs. I think the frustration for her comes from the fact that I have to try and read her mind as to what she wants and I have to handle her a lot to move her to her chick chair and do the exercises and feed her.
I cant really tell why she's frustrated but I do think that maybe she wants to move on her own. She falls to her side when I sit her down. She needs a suporting ring but she doesnt like it and puts herself in a lying position. I do think its her legs that dont allow her to sit upright. Its been...
Yes thats what I am grappling with. The only vet in the area that sees chickens is not taking any more patients but I think I will try and see if I can get them to reconsider. Though I dont hold much hope for him to know what to do - this is not a farming area. I guess I will see how she does...
Still alive thank goodness but no luck with the walking. I'm having to offer feed and water to her every hour. She has a little chick sling she stays in a few times a day for a half an hour or so. I am doing little exercises with her and the physical therapy you described above a few times a day...
Thank You Eve. I will try that. Unfortunately the only bird specialist in my area is not taking new patients. I have put out feelers to some of my fellow chicken keepers to see if they know of anyone else. I have had chickens for many years now but never been in a situation like this. Its just...
She doesnt cry when I move her legs. She uses her wings to get around. She is in the same room as the other chicks and can hear them. I sometimes bring her close to them but they are now much bigger than her so I feel I have to closely supervise their togetherness. I have been hand feeding her...
I have a roughly 3 week old Silkie. When I brought her back from the farmstand she was walking fine. Around a day or two later she stopped walking and became very ill. It took a week or nursing and hand feeding her for her to get her strength back but still no signs of life in her legs. She will...
So she is getting stronger every day. She is eating well and has regular looking poops but she still isnt walking and while she seems to be able to move her legs she wont bear her weight on them. Its hard to tell if there is any swelling because her legs are so tiny. Any suggestions on what I...
Thank you so much. She seems to very very slowly be doing better. She still cant stand on her legs but I fell her pushing a bit with them. She is really tiny compared to her sibling chicks granted they are not silkies but I am hoping she will grow a bit faster. I am worried about when the time...
She is still at it fortunately. I have been mixing a tiny bit of nutridrench into the water that I then mix with her mash and egg yolk. There is vitamin E in that. Should I add a bit more?
Still the same. Weak but stable. Eats a few bites every hour or so. She was walking when I first got her. She doesnt seem to want to use her legs at all. I have her and the rest of the chicks in my home office where I work so I am fortunate to be able to feed her but It would be a lot easier if...
I have a Silkie chick that must be at least two weeks old. She was at least a week old when I got her at the farm stand. She and another chick in my group of 4 chicks had a bit of pasty butt that I remedied as soon as I saw it. The other chick is doing fine but the silkie took a turn for the...
Easter Egger Cockerel (also referred to as Americauna chickens) needs a new home. He is around 8 weeks old. We just found out that SHE was a HE as he is starting to crow and we arent allowed to have roosters in our town. Would like to find a good home for him as he will be greatly missed. He is...
He is so pretty and tame with humans as well unfortunately roosters are illegal in my town and we have really close neighbors. Any way to muffle a rooster? Ugh...
