    contracting Mareks at 29 months?

Pretty sure I'm going to have to put her down. She's not getting any better and seems to almost be getting worse. Her balance is terrible and she was at least balancing on one leg on Monday. My daughter is in tears.

    contracting Mareks at 29 months?

Even more confused. She's not holding it up anymore amd the toes are not curled (they were). It almost looks normal but she still can't put any weight on it. She looks fine otherwise. No weakness anywhere else, eyes look clear. I guess only time will tell

    contracting Mareks at 29 months?

Thank you for the advice Eggcessive. I will get her some vitamins to help out. I agree that I thought it unlikely she would develop it this late in her life. The only possible carriers she could have been exposed to would have been wild fowl. I live on a lake. We have many ducks, geese, blue...

    contracting Mareks at 29 months?

I have a Bantam Barred Plymouth Rock Hen. 2 ½ years old. who up until this past weekend has been healthy from what I’ve observed. Walked out to the coop Saturday to see her sitting on the ground. When she stood I noticed she was not using one leg at all. We immediately isolated her and made...

3 of my 7 chickens no longer laying

5 of them are 2 years old and 2 of them are only 1 year old. They can't be hiding them as I don't freerange due to all the predators in my area.

3 of my 7 chickens no longer laying

7 birds in my tiny group. 4 in one coop, 3 in another. Moved to this home last August. After the move my bantam partridge stopped laying. She hasn't laid since we moved. In her coop are also 2 easter eggers of which 1 stopped laying within the past couple weeks (the polish has never laid an egg...

The emotions of splitting a small flock?

Ok, it's been 10 days and this bird has started screaming her head off again. I am convinced she is one pissed off bird when anything changes and this is her way of telling us. Chicken cursing?? She had calmed a bit a few days after the 3 left, but then because there were less in the coop the 2...

The emotions of splitting a small flock?

Yes. A few of the birds were relocated to a friends house. And she's up and back at it this morning. Poor girl

The emotions of splitting a small flock?

She has always been the most voicetrous of all of them so kinda in her character but not non stop like today. Its been very excessive. She usually is only noisy when she sees someone outside. Shes still screaming now and nobody has been outside all day.

The emotions of splitting a small flock?

They are not with me. I had 4 in one coop and 6 in another coop from day 1. I just removed 3 from the coop that had 6 birds and sent those 3 to a friends house. We only did this yesterday so its still a new change. Shes still out there yelling. She's the only one so must be very disturbed by the...

The emotions of splitting a small flock?

I hope she does. She's still yelling her damn head off this morning. Thankfully I only have one neighbor where I live and she's opposite side of my home where the coop is and windows are still closed here. This bird is making a racket. I feel bad for her. 😔😔

The emotions of splitting a small flock?

I have a tiny flock. 10 birds. 4 in one coop/run and 6 in the other. The coop with 6 has a silkie and due to a move i had to reduce the size of the run and they are now picking on her. Also I am recently widowed and my children have purchased their own homes so I just cannot eat all the eggs...

Chicken escaped - but in the dark AND at a new location

Thanks all. And FYI my birds don't free range at all. I live next to about 100 acres of wildlife management area so they would be picked off so fast! For their safety they are corralled in a covered run at all times. (With 2 1/2 ft of skirting and about 400 six inch yard staples holding it all...

Chicken escaped - but in the dark AND at a new location

Thanks all. I let the girls out of the coop this morning into their runs. Now I guess I just wait and see if she returns. I really don't have a "call" for them as they've only gotten out once and all came home. I have to go to work but plan on driving home for lunch just to see if she made it...

Chicken escaped - but in the dark AND at a new location

Also I guess I'm surprised she's "gone" or can't be seen? She was right behind the second coop, I went inside to get my headlamp, came back out and she's nowhere to be found. Maybe she's closer than I'm thinking and I just didn't see her. Cross your fingers! But again - if she survives the...

Chicken escaped - but in the dark AND at a new location

Thanks all, the run door is open right now, but I am up and watching the trail cam. I won't leave it open all night, I will close it. I have scanned the woods as I figured she wasn't far, but she's also brown and tan so blends in well with the trees. I do have lights on around the house so...

Chicken escaped - but in the dark AND at a new location

Evening all. I have a small flock of only 10 birds divided into 2 coops. Today we relocated both coops from an old house to my new home. As I was securing the coops for the night I noticed one of my girls refusing to go into the coop. Since I border about 45 acres of wildlife forest now...

    Predator Wounds

Oh... But now I also have a bird that seems to be gasping. Like she's having trouble breathing? Yet then she stops. I have no idea what's going on with her
