I can take a picture in a few if need be. It is just two "farm innovators baby chick starter home" zip tied together, with a 250 watt lamp (we actually have two lamps set up but one isnt turned on because the chicks are only using half the brooder).
We are using puppy pads at the moment. Chick...
Hello, I am just trying to understand what happened to my new chick and if it will happen to the other 27.
No, my light bulb is not Teflon. No, I do not use any type of sprays, scents, candles, etc. Yes, they have access to clean water. Yes, they have access to clean chick starter. They are in...
So we had a breach of the walls today, and the chicks escaped :| Luckily they all huddled in a corner and none of them found they way out of the crack under my door, and out into the world of the dogs and cats... anyway, we had to count them all and it turns out we have 28! We were only supposed...
Just a hint! You can get "Children's Play Sand" at most hardware stores (think Home Depot, Lowes, etc) for very, very cheap - it is usually fine sand because it's meant for sand boxes so they clean it and run it through a fine mesh screen. You can get 50 pounds of the stuff for like $4 - 5! The...
There are so many different colors! Once they are more settled in I will get pictures out of the red light. They all arrived alive and LOUD and all look to be in good shape. No one seems weak. Our free mystery chick appears to be one of the breeds we ordered as there are no singletons! Haha

Check out this thread! Someone else had an all black Rouen as well and shows what she looks like fully grown :-)
I'm going to assume that's Nutritional Yeast, correct?
Which starter feed? Start and grow for chickens (medicated/non medicated?), starter for game birds (30% protein)?
What amount of yeast to feed are you providing?
Try supplementing Vitamin E as well in the potential wry neck duckling...
Haven't posted here since my life flipped upside down, but. I live on a farm now, we currently have a flock of 6 (4 hens, 2 roosters) and chicken math happened.
Us: let's get 6 more hens
Us, buying hens: oops we ordered 25 (plus 1 freebie)!
So we've got...

Thanks for that information! That's good to know about the winter thing.... I never knew that about the buttons! I'm in Florida so it doesn't get terribly cold, but for a few days in the winter it can drop into the 30s. Will the Coturnix be okay?
Hi all!
So about 3 weeks ago, we bought four baby "button" quail. Well, turns out they are Coturnix Quails - not buttons! A huge bummer for us, but we still love our quail and want to take care of them to the best of our abilities. (yes, we were scammed 😭 I've never seen quail in person and...
Hi everyone! I'm trying to learn as much as I can about chickens because... I'm getting two or three sometime this year or next! I know it's pretty far away, but I have a lot to learn before I get them ;)
Anyway, we live in Florida (specifically Pinellas Park) where it is H O T almost all the...
Yeah I agree that that specific section does seem to apply to people running businesses (with licenses), but I'd be willing to bet that any code enforcement would reference that law for backyard chickens, too.
It looks like 10 chickens are the maximum:
Sec. 27-282.25 specifies kennel, small (with kennel, large reading the same) as 1 - 10 chickens.

also BYC has a specific section...
I live about 30 minutes away from Tampa, we can only have 3 hens, and no roosters.
I know someone up in Wesley Chapel (about an hour from Tampa) that runs a rescue, and has ducks, chickens, and the like. They're an educational facility, as far as I know. If you don't find anyone, let me know...
