I live in south central Kansas. I can get pretty muggy here some days. Summers can be hot in the 90s-100s winters have been pretty mild around here lately but have had a couple of sub zero temperatures
just about finished with our coop that we build in our barn.all the sides are plywood except where the entry is and it’ll have chicken wire door. The ceiling will also be wire. Is that enough ventilation? Would it be okay to mount a fan to circulate the air from the ceiling?
Thanks!! It’s nice to hear some ideas. I was free ranging mine during the day while I was at work then I lost one and didn’t know who the culprit was. Then I came home one afternoon to find my dog had two of them (even though he had been around chickens before and never bothered them) so I have...
Here is some progress of the build. We are now thinking building the other side up with plywood and doing the ceiling with wire as well as the front where the entry door will be. Is that enough ventilation?
Yes I have been free ranging them during the day but unfortunately I have lost one a couple weeks ago and now just lost a few more and have come to find out it was our dog doing it. He came with the house we bought and the previous owners had chickens and said he never bothered them so I thought...
We are wanting to build a coop inside our barn. Looking for any ideas or suggestions. My thoughts so far are to use plywood halfway on the sides and run wire on the top half and also wire for the roof. Trying to decide what to do about the opening in the back. Would it be okay to completely...
Yes I’ve had them in the same cage just separated through the fence. If I put them all together is it okay to let the new ones free range or will they run away?

When can I let my new pullets in with my others? Right now I have them in a pen so they can see each other but not come in contact. When can I start letting them free range with my others?
I am wanting to try to ferment my feed to cut down on waste and to make the feed last longer. I know the process is fairly simple but would like to have some insight. I have 6 chickens and 2 ducks. Is it okay for the ducks to eat as well? How long after you ferment is the feed good? What rations...
