We're almost all hatched out now!!
18 or so chicks in there now, about 7 more left to hatch. Have a few pips, but I'm worried about some of our silkies. Its so hard though to tell which ones have hatched and which haven't. But it looks like there are still about 4/5 of our dozen left. Of...
Ugh, my niece opened the bator when I got distracted by the door. It was only open for a second, and the humidity is still around 75/80. I hope they are ok.
So, we came home from a visit with family to find 2 fuzzy butts in the bator!!
Now there are 3 and tons of pips!
So far 2 MF D'uccle, and 1 Buff Silkie.
Can't wait for more.
CONGRATULATIONS and GOOD LUCK to all!
Ok, I got 2 dozen standard mixed from SIL and 1 dozen silkies for the girls in the bator, oh and added 2 random mixed banties from our flock.
It's been 2 weeks, candled and all the banties are doing well, had to throw out a rotten standard (Oh how it smelled!) and there were 5 that weren't...
So my babies are 3 weeks old. They have been going outside in their own little cage for a while now. The weather here is nice now, and we were wondering at what age can we introduce them to the "big coop"? We have 3 hens and a roo in the big coop, and I am ready to have them moved out, got 3...
Getting ready to set a dozen silkie eggs, and 2 dozen mixed breeds!!!!!! Was all ready to set them todat, LG had been holding temps great for 4 days. Then came home from gettin' the eggs and it was down to under 50*F I'm pretty sure someone messed with it, but nobody came clean. So waiting...
Congratulations to everyone on the new hatches!!!!! Its so exciting to see all the little fuzzies, and keep the pics coming.
Right now I am getting the bator ready for Sat. I have about 2 dozen mixed eggs for SIL, and am getting some silkie and mille fluer eggs for my little girl!!
Can't wait.
I'm in Southern OH.
I think maybe there wasn't good air flow for the chicks. Thanks for the links, there is some good info there.
I'm already thinking ahead to the next one, and how to make it better.
Yeah, I tried the dry method. They all seemed to have well developed air cells with no water. It has been quite humid here though.
I am going to get a few more supplies for next time, including a hygrometer.
So 8 of our 20 hatched. The other 12 did not.
We broke open the eggs to see when the quit, and all were fully developed. Some even had pips. There was no water in the air sack, and the membranes were nice and moist, none were shrink wrapped.
Since we are planning on sitting another few...

That is quite a story!!
I love seeing everyone's chicks!!! There are so many, and they are all so cute.
Unfortunantly we lost two babies today...the kids decided they needed water, put a waterer in and two fell in My partner at work answered the phone, he was like "umm...I think...
Getting ready to move the little ones to the brooder, should I use a regular light bulb, or one a heat bulb made for reptiles? I have both just wondering which is better.

I don't know, but I hope it is OK.
We have 7 chicks in the bator now One more almost out..and a few more pips. This out of 20 eggs.
Two of them chicks pipped, and started zipping, but now nothing, no movement or anything for almost 24hours. I am afraid they didn't make it...
We have 2 fuzzy butts, and 6 pips we can see!
Trying to figure out how to upload pics from my phone.
The kids are so happy! All the neighbor kids were here to watch.

Are you sure you set them on March 29? Today is only April 11 - how could they be ready so fast?
Lol, no I couldn't of. I need to look closer at the calendar.
I have 3 pips now, and one loud chirper.
