Goslings developing bald patches on sides

They are healing. :) We suspect it was the bedding causing the problem - as we had switched types (to a very fine straw) just when it started happening, and everything else had been the same care routine for a couple weeks.

Goslings developing bald patches on sides

Thank you Goose Girl, I didn't know that. Do they have better night vision than chickens then? It turns out they DIDN'T have overnight access to food & water, which is what they started off with (I'm not the one who puts them to bed or lets them out, so I didn't know this had changed). This...

Goslings developing bald patches on sides

Nope, not from the door. One of them now has an open wound there after last night. I think they must be biting at it.

Goslings developing bald patches on sides

The damage is on both sides, so I don't think it could be from rubbing while they sleep. Maybe they are scraping it on the door frame going in and out if they squeeze through side-by-side?

Goslings developing bald patches on sides

This is what the worst one looks like.

Goslings developing bald patches on sides

We have four embden goslings, about one month old, just starting to get real feathers on their shoulders, and the ledge where the wings rest. At night they are closed into their hutch, and during the day they are on grass. Night and day, they have access to grain and water. The last several...

Solved How do you add images to the gallery for a breed?

I thought I'd add some pictures to the Chantecler page, since I have some good shots of our partridge birds. I can see where to add reviews, but not how to add to the gallery. What am I missing? Many thanks in advance.

Is she a mix, or a particular breed?

Got her with a mixed lot (mostly easter eggers) but she is the only one with this colouring. She has white earlobes. Not sure of egg colour - possibly olive.

    Is this parrot beak?

I would be surprised if it is dwarfism, she is growing in line with the other Partridge Chantecler chicks we bought. She is only subtly different at a glance, because her beak slopes down more quickly.

    Is this parrot beak?

I think she's kind of cute looking, and it doesn't seem to be problematic, but I would like to know what this is.

Did some mixes slip in with our partridge chanteclers?

Yes - it doesn't take much to send the scattering or flying in all directions.

Did some mixes slip in with our partridge chanteclers?

Cushion combs is what they are supposed to have - they look on track so far, though I've only had birds with pea combs and singles to compare. They are smoother than the pea combs. I actually found a thread FULL of photos at different ages - which is what I needed...

Did some mixes slip in with our partridge chanteclers?

All of them. The dark ones have the same barring - it just didn't show well in the photo.

Did some mixes slip in with our partridge chanteclers?

There are 13 of them and they don't all look different. They all have the same type of comb, they all have that barring down their bodies, wings backs and tails. Apart from the two white ones, and one or two with a different colour under the neck, the barring is over light brown, or dark brown...

Did some mixes slip in with our partridge chanteclers?

I am confused by your reply, do you mean that none of these look like PC's? Edited my post for clarity. As I said, the lady bought them as hatching eggs, she didn't breed them herself.

Did some mixes slip in with our partridge chanteclers?

I am not sure what the other breeds were - she had quite a variety in her yard, but the chicks were from eggs that she bought, not her birds. Here is an updated pic (from today). There are two of the white-breasted ones. They are both boys, as far as I can tell, and heavier than the other...

Did some mixes slip in with our partridge chanteclers?

We bought 13 chicks that are supposed to be partridge chanteclers, but the lady had a few other varieties of chick in the same box and wasn't 100% sure about all of them. All the pictures I can find of PCs are brown and black, but a few of the chicks we have, while the feather patterns are the...
