He is a good looking rooster!

Has anyone hatched eggs from a meat bird?

That’s awesome, thanks! He’s by far the biggest rooster I’ve had. He looks just like a red dorking, but with feathered feet. According to the man I got him from, he was a very rare breed, and he won a competition 10 or so years ago  He was free, so I didn’t argue ;) He was also kept...

Has anyone hatched eggs from a meat bird?

The father, I’ve been told was a dorking, but I’m not sure he’s full blood. He’s a big boy though. We have a total of 3 chicks that are hers, I’m really excited to see how they grow!

Has anyone hatched eggs from a meat bird?

I picked up 6 adult meat birds earlier this year. Unfortunately the weather got bad, and I wasn’t able to butcher them when planned. Long story short, they were sick, and all but one died within two weeks. I felt bad for her, since she survived the sickness and crazy weather, so I pardoned her...

4 month old Turken can’t figure out if it’s a pullet or cockerel

This is the best I could get, it’s not too crazy about being held

4 month old Turken can’t figure out if it’s a pullet or cockerel

This guy/girl is 4 months old. It looks identical to my 6 month old turken pullet, but it’s comb and wattles are much more developed than my other 4 month old pullets. I haven’t noticed any rooster behaviors, nor have I seen it be mounted by my rooster. It doesn’t look like it has the typical...

    Raising a blind chick

After syringe feeding and treating the wounds for a few days, both eyes are at least a little open! I know it has vision in at least one of the eyes, because he started pecking at the syringe today.

    Raising a blind chick

My broody hen hatched some chicks yesterday morning. One of the other hens tried to “steal” the babies by pecking them to try and get them under herinstead of the mom. I put the offending hen in solitary until she calmed down (she’s now back to ignoring the chicks), but one of the babies was...

    Rescue chics from feed store?

I would jump on the chance to do it! Of course, I’m really bad about taking in weak/lost/abandoned creatures. It usually ends in heartbreak, but at least I’ve given them a chance.

    Impacted crop

I believe mine had water belly. Her abdomen was swollen, and by the time I figure out her crop wasn’t the root of the problem, it was already pretty bad.

Can a Turkey kill a rooster

Just got my confirmation that it was the turkey. My husband went out this morning and saw her carrying one of our silkies around by the neck. Luckily the silkie survived, but I don’t have the time to build a new pen, so I think Turkey may be finding a new home :(

Can a Turkey kill a rooster

He should have been able to get away, unless he didn’t back down. There is plenty of room for all then some. That seems like the most likely answer. I can’t think of anything else that would have got him.

Can a Turkey kill a rooster

I can home to find my favorite rooster dead. All other chickens are accounted for. His only injury is to his head. There is blood all over his face and comb, but nowhere else. My first though was hawk, but he doesn’t have any claw marks, and his neck doesn’t seem to be broken. I have a BB...

    Jersey's tail?

I had a white Jersey giant that had the same problem! Her tail finally grew in (it took forever) and now at 6 months her tail is completely normal

Hey guys, I’m popping in to say hi! I’m about to fire up my incubator with 8 Ayam Cemani eggs, and I’m so freakin excited! These are the most expensive eggs I’ve ever bought 😳 so I’m a little nervous too

Power to incubator went off, ares these still viable?

The first chick hatched this morning, and at least half of the chicks have pipped!

That is a really informative article, I’ll have to bookmark it! They seem to be doing good. Plenty of veins, and I have seen some move too!
