Hawk attack, skin missing on breast

Thank you, yes very deep. No internal organs from what I can tell. I just cleaned her, unsure if she should have a soak in warm water or continue with just cleaning with betadine. She's interested in food and drinking some. I'll scramble some eggs now. There is an odor when I was cleaning...

Hawk attack, skin missing on breast

A hawk just attacked my silkie. She's warm and breathing, not a lot of blood. Upon further inspection she has a hole in her skin that opens up her breast. It looks as though some may have been eaten. I cleaned with betadine and have her inside warm in a dark place, giving her water and will...

    Treating lice on chicks

Thank you! A few related questions. I have the hen and chicks in a smaller brooder section in my fences off lawn. I’ve been moving their little area around the grass for cleanliness. My hen is dropping feathers that I’ve been raking up. Should I spray the grass areas that they were on...

    Hen helping with hatching

I read a few other posts and put coconut oil on the membrane areas that had no shell. The next morning I checked the egg and found the chick still chirping and all of the blood appeared to have dried. I very slowly chipped the rest of the shell off, the membrane was dry and a little tough. A...

    Treating lice on chicks

I recently hatched a few chicks only to discover a lice infestation. As I prepare to attack this, what is safe for the chicks. Their mom has been dropping feathers in their separate fenced area. Will the lice move from dropped feather back to the chickens even after I treat them? Thanks!

I have a power cord running to a heat plate and under my electric fence, unfortunately I don’t run power through my fence and can’t help. When I turn it on in the fall, I would like to know the answer you will get as I will be in the same boat.

    Hen helping with hatching

There are no others that have started to hatch. I was hoping they would hatch while she is sleeping and she wouldn’t bother with them. Should I try to save the bloody egg and put it in an incubator? What humidity? It’s still breathing and chirping just not ready.

    Hen helping with hatching

Hi all, need your help. I am hatching Silkies with a broody Maran. This will be the Maran’s 2nd time hatch. I just saw one egg is starting to open, the outer layer of the shell is off in some places. As I watched the mom started pecking aggressively at the egg and when it was moving around I...

Wait until weaned or bring chicks into coop before?

Update, first few hours it was definitely a little loud in the coop. Next morning everyone woke up and started their morning without any concerns. Thanks again to all, so happy to have your support and encouragement!
