Needing help to find out what this thing is on my Sussex hen. Cane across it after I bathed her. It's right before the huge crest of feathers on her back/bum area.
It's a short thick stem kinda thing with a few short small feathers growing out of it. Approx 8-10mm tall and 2mm thick.

I only sprayed the wooden parts of coop as rest is metal and let it dry out before they were allowed back in and her oddnees started 30-40min after doing the oil thing.. As long as i don't poison her out of kindness!! Id be acting all funny too if i gad to eat that!
Ive been checking the poop and not seen anything nasty or worms but im sure its not related but ive had two pointy shaped eggs from one of my girls ? Is that another thing to be worried about
Yes im hoping its not that either. She appears to be a bit more sensitive to me touching that particular leg and i also noticed a black mark which at quick glance could be mud or dirt.

Hi Sue, yes sorry i saw the lice and seen state of there legs and nails. Bettu is a cuddle lover.. Since Tash passed she practically jumos up into my arms in the morning now and i very cautious of her stressing out. It was just odd behavior and it was bloody freezing here at night!

I recently got given two sussex hens.. Niw tbey gave settled and i can get close to them, there nails were super long, i trimmed then down and was easy to do with dog nail clippers.
Im having that issue now although the two newbies looked perfectly healthy and i was not able to get close to them to do a thorough check and didn't want to stress them even more so gave it a week till tbey settled to their new home. One had a weird walk
