Thanks!
Lulu is a very handsome chap and a lovely name for a boy chook! ;)
We’re still hopeful Dorothy is a girl, we’re not strictly allowed roosters where we are although I know a couple of our neighbours have one. If she is a boy, let’s just hope she’s a quiet one!!
No, 8 out of 12 of our hens are laying, most only started within the last 6wks or so, which we thought was unusual as it’s winter down here. But they’re still only about 10mths old.
No crowing either, and not dominant, although we did catch her trying to mount a hen yesterday....
Thanks everyone for your replies.
As requested, here’s a few more photos...as I look at them I’m more convinced that Dorothy is perhaps a boy. Her tail curls downwards more than the others...
Hello!
That’s Dorothy, she’s a Cochin (or Pekin as the Kiwis say). I’ve posted her photo on another thread because we were just wondering if Dorothy could be a boy...but so far the consensus is she’s a hen.
Thank you, that’s what we’re hoping. We’re not supposed to keep roosters where we are, but we love Dorothy and couldn’t bear to have to find her a new home.
Hello and thanks for having me...here’s my intro info.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Hubby and I are new chicken parents. Our chooks joined our family at the end of 2017.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We currently have 12, which is the maximum...
Hello, I’m a newbie, with a newbie question, so thanks for bearing with me.
We have 8 Pekin chickens, all of which joined our family as pullets back in December.
We thought we were getting hens, but we’ve recently been having doubts about Dorothy.
Recent photo attached but I can post better...
