Blue Jays or Crows perhaps, yes. Rats no. I caught a opossum eating eggs once but I killed it immediately, it never made it out of the coop. I just assumed an opossum, raccoon, skunk or mink would have also attacked my two broody hens and figured a snake would eat the eggs whole.
But why would they do it? They never have before? We have oyster shells out for them. And all of the eggs?? There were broken ones in every box and on the coop floor too.
Went out to collect eggs today and all the eggs that aren’t under a broody hen were cracked open, shells still there, no hurt chickens... what the??? Did a predator do this?? If so what would it be?? We have a livestock guardian dog, four roosters, two broodys in the coop round the clock and...
This is looking like an excellent option! I am currently remodeling our set up as it is so this is absolutely a viable option! Thank you! I am sure Purena thanks you as well since I am pretty sure we keep them in business ourselves with all the feed we were buying! Lol! But the chickens never...
Hi friends!

I am looking for a good feed option for my entire hippie homestead! Lol We have chickens galore, 3 Nigerian Dwarf does and 5 ducks. They all bunk together in our little barn and have for months and months now, since we added the goats. They were doelings when we got them and they follow our Roos...
When you see them panting like that use a misting attachments to your garden hose and lightly mist everyone. I call mine to the patio for food and treats and while they are enjoying some snacks I gently mist everyone. They really enjoy it and it’s stops the panting immediately. Be so careful...
I couldn’t get a picture bc one of my hens was trying to eat it thinking it was kitchen scraps and I got her away from it and scooped it into a sack with the straw it was in... don’t want ANYONE getting a taste for raw eggs! We don’t know who laid it and we have never had one before. It was laid...
Thanks guys! She is all better and back in with the flock and doing well. Took her a day or two to get her place back in the pecking order but her attitude is what got her pecked in the eye to begin with so she has quickly made the climb back up lol. We used Neosporin in her eye bc I had it on...

- I’m in Ohio, I have six 6 week old chicks inside and want them to go outside when they can but obviously it’s getting cold at night some nights right now here... lower than 20 is normal for this time of year... when can they safely go in with the main...
Awesome thank you for the info! How many days should we put the ointment on her eye? Just until it looks normal? Should I keep her separated from the flock
Thank you! Any tips to keep her head still enough to really wipe at the eye? She goes nuts and I don’t want to break her neck trying to...
