Heres nhr Gretchen. Hatched May 5th so shes a lil over 29 weeks. I made a bet with myself that she would be the first to lay of my 6 birds but her sis Gretchen and 3 other white leghorns are laying before her. Shes been the dominant hen since day one but as far as laying shes a dud...For now.
So far I get 4 eggs a day from 6 hens. Im waiting for 2 others to lay. I havent sold any yet but I have mailed a couple dozen to my mother and brother. They love the idea of knowing whats goin' into their eggs. If or when I decide to sell eggs, I may stamp them. Of course the stamp will be 100%...
Im gona usenmy birds as comparison in regards to ur question. I have 2 nhr and 4 white leg. The nhr were born mid May and the legs 4 weeks later. I had your same concern but one nhr laid a week after 5 months old and 3 legs a week, 2 weeks and 3 weeks after. Still waiting on another nhr and a...
I have a few pullets and two young roosters in town. About nine weeks old actually. Fortunately I have a makeshift coop and some land to send the roos(and pullets) to. Question: How long before they start crowing?
Three of my four white leghorns started laying a week ago and during tha time I got small eggs from all. This morning I got a huuuge egg. Will they all soon lay the large egg, small egg or will it vary? Which size Im I lookin' at down the road?
I have six pullets. My first pullet layed Oct. 25 and three more birds followed after. One nh has laid everyday since the 25th and each day I get 3 eggs, sometimes 4.. Im assuming one nh and one leg. havent started laying yet.
A seed block, veggie tether and or scattered chicken scratch should "program" them to stop the pecking and use energy elsewhere. Worked for me. Btw for my tether i changed the veggie/fruit from cucumber, to lettuce, to an apple, etc. Healthy and fun!:thumbsup
So far my NHR is as consistent as my leghorn. Although I dont have substantial data yet because they are new layers. So far the nhr has laid an egg 7 of 7 days. The leghorn 3 of 3 days but layed 2 eggs one of the days. Nhr eggs are a bit larger. We all know legs are prolific egg layers so i used...
Man my NH red just started laying 6 days ago and a leghorn 3 days ago. The both has laid an egg a day. Both birds eggs are tiny. Epsecially the leghorns. After reading this thread i assume they get bigger for both. Top row are store bought, middle row are reds and the bottom is the legs.
