Well, after I took her two eggs, she stayed in that spot for another day and then snapped out of brooding herself. Now she's back to sleeping on the tree. She's no longer producing eggs. She's walking around in the day time with the stray cat that she hangs out with.
Thank you for the kind words. I thought the term Game Chicken is used to describe them that don't want to stay in the coop? if you breed them then i guess they become domesticated and not really game chicken right?
I don't know why you would label me like that. "it's having my cake and eating it too."
I have been feeding the stray cats for years without needing to get anything in return. The hen came about a year ago and I've fed it with nothing in return as well until a month ago when she started to...
Probably not. We'll just let her roam. I'm sure if she wants to join a coop she would have followed other chickens. Will she realize there's no more eggs and stop brooding?
i removed her and put her in a box. Boy was she mad. So there were only 2 eggs. I took both and candled them. They were both clear. I kept them in the house. Are they still edible after 1 week?
I went back out and the hen jumped out of the box and back to where the eggs were. How do you...
I'm still not very sure I want to start my own chicken coop unless if chicks are going to hatch, then I feel responsible to care for them. So we'll see.
I only put out food in the morning and only enough so that the cats finish them off by sunset. One of the stray cat is a cripple that lives beneath my cars in the car port. I don't think it would survive without the food.
Yes, we've seen/heard her running around a few times really late at night, making lots of noise. Maybe she was being chased? So far she's managed to survive.
I looked up game chicken, which says they like to roost on tree. That sounds exactly right as I have followed her one evening and saw her jump up to a tree branch around midnight.
There was just 1 the night before she became broody. After that I don't know how many she laid. Should I pick her up and check?
My wife wants to but we haven't thought of a name yet.
